    Hi Syed

—— doubt if you need to track the van to do what you want.

    I reckon either —

1 ) simply apply the motion key-frames of your van to a pre-comp that contains the smoke / then pre-comp the result and reposition to the exhaust pipe

    OR

2 ) Precomp the smoke emitter then just add 2 key-frames one as the van enters and one as it leaves / then tweak key-frames on time line if required.

Hi Dave – thanks for the speedy reply …

…………….. get motion blur ok which is proportional to speed but its all the same weight — ie the pixels ( in the blur ) furthest from the object are the same density as those nearest ( I think ) …..

…………. perhaps I need to take a closer look at it — in the meantime please what is you favourite setting for motion blur and Ill start with that …

    All the best

    Hi Paulo

—– if you have not tried this already suggest you purge all memory and image cache memory — then also delete all cache files manually – also maybe reboot for good measure………..

    ……………. worth a try.

    Hi Dave
    — no problem and thanks for reply anyway –

    — will be checking this out myself soon to see if it is effective and if so cant help thinking it would be a very useful addition to all layers.

    All the best

    Hi Walter

—– many thanks the more detailed info which is extremely useful and much appreciated.

Been wondering about swapping to PNG sequences anyway so will give it a try.

    Hi Roland

    — thanks for speedy feedback — much appreciated

I get that it depends on the client but often as long as it loads into the Avid and looks good it does not matter … so I was just wondering….

    — currently tending to stick with the tga sequence as it seems pretty ok all round.

    Hi Dave

    — in the co-pilot tuorial found here : tthttps://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/translucent_glass/ Andrew Kramer modifies the animation curve of type using settings in the ‘range’ menu.

This allows % adjustments on ‘ease high’ and ‘ease low’ – as seen at 19:00.

I thought this looked pretty useful and wondered if it was available elsewhere.

This is because although I understand the essentials ( I think ) of the graph editor I still find it pretty much impossible to control animation curves with any subtlety or accuracy ( as is easily possible on Flint ) .

Also if you or anyone else know of any good tutorials for using the graph editor it would be much appreciated.

    thanks Cassius –

    – much appreciated –

    — lets just hope you have missed something though …… this would help greatly with animation controls which I still find to be extremely difficult to use….

Hi John – apologies for delay – been busy ….

RE checking field order – its in 2 area….

    1 ) WHEN YOU RENDER

Under render settings / best settings / field render / upper field first

2 ) WHEN IMPORTING FOOTAGE INTO AE

Make sure the import settings match the footage ie if the source material is ‘UPPER’ make sure the import setting is on ‘UPPER’ —– ( same with other import settings )— best watch this one as some HD Cams ( I think ) have lower field first…. if not sure suggest you talk to cameraman…..

IMPORT SETTINGS — these can be accessed by ‘right clicking’ footage ( as listed in panel at top left of AE layout ) and selecting correct option boxes.

If the source material is smooth in the first place and no effect ( or whatever ) is applied that might cause the jittering then this will probably sort it for you…..

    All the best

    Chris
