Hey – when you were on that Media Composer 3.5.1, do you remember what version of Interplay was running?

[grinner hester] “Kind of funny that we are peckin at MC v4 today… the version MC was at 15 years ago.”

Yup – just like how Burger King’s “Burger Bundles” from 15 years ago are finally back, but called “Burger Shots”…

also check out sites like elance. There’s a TON of hoops you’ll have to jump through, but it’s still neat.

That is awesome, where did the quote come from?

    It’s mine.

About eight years ago, I had a very self-inflated videographer in my edit bay. We were “politely discussing” why certain shots didn’t make it into the final edited piece. He gave me about five or six minutes worth of monologue, to which he finished with “…because a picture says 1000 words.”

With a smirk I threw my index finger in the air and said “…but editors give them meaning.”

He actually started demanding me as his editor after that. Funny how conflicts change minds.

There’s a doof in every company (usually wearing a tie patterned with little hot dogs or Santas) that really digs injecting software with unnecessary crud like heart wipes and page curls. It loads up switchers and software with buttons, just to make it look as-or-more impressive than the next guy’s.

You can go to any major hardware store and buy a power drill, anything from a $20 Black and Decker to a $1,000 Milwaukee. Really though, all you need is a hole, right?

Next thing you know, they’ll redesign the stop sign…

If your boss pulls up to your drive thru window and orders a burger, don’t make him wait 30 minutes for a plate of steak and potatoes. Give him a burger.

If however he asks for a cheap steak and you give him a butterfly-cut filet mignon for the same price, he’ll come back to you forever!

Right now the video sits on the fence. Either kill the montage or trickle it into the piece more. Perhaps a few images quick-cut between sections?

June 19, 2008 at 6:23 pm in reply to: my beef with transcriptions in fcp – warranted?

From the angle of a doc editor, the industry has reached the point where it really doesn’t matter what system (Avid, FCP, Premiere…) is used… except for the handling of scripts and transcripts.

Be it FCP or whatever, nothing right now is as good as Avid Media Composer’s internal script program and their relatively new addition of ScriptSync.

    https://www.scottsimmons.tv/blog/2007/07/19/avid-scriptsync-demo/

Perhaps not for this production of yours, but consider renting an Avid for the next one – even just for the interview-assembly stage.

Dylan – I love learning processes. Even though I’ll be doing this particular task in AE, what is the hoop-jumping process to do it in the Avid?

    Thanks!
