Thanks for all the feedback today Shane.

So how long does it take you to transfer a full 8gig card to your G4 laptop?

    Hey thanks for writing!

So I check with Firestore again this morning about this but they are due to release a firmware update this month that allows for Native frame rate recording. Does this change your opinoin of it? I hear what you were saying about the DVD-R back up solution and the ease of 4 & 8 gig chunks. That is convenient. I’m just still leaning towards the better value of the firestore.

What are the other short comings of the fs-100 vs a P2 that I should consider?

As far as the price of the used HVX200, I tried to get it for $3700 but the final price became $4000. But this is with no P2 card. That’s pretty much the cost of the camera when you buy it with the “free” P2 card at $5200. 8 gig P2 cards being $1200.

Do you think I should keep hunting or is this a reasonable deal?

    Thanks!

    Chris

So does that mean that the HDX900 or the HPX2100 is the better camera based off chips alone?

Does shown at NAB mean available on waitlist Q1-08?

The Hpx500 doesnt have a tape trasport does it?

You know I’m going to save the money and get a HVX200 over the HDX900 which I got pretty excited about. But I have to say the HPX900 is pretty interesting since it has firewire and tape. That means you’re tape based archive and your direct-to-(transfer then)-edit firestore is captured at the same time!

That’s an even faster workflow than P2 which you have to back up twice so that you have an archive and working copy.

    Regardless…

The HVX500 and the HPX2100 were definitely the cameras I felt Panasonic should have been making. Now if we can only get a high gig P2 cards!

  • Thanks so much Lars. Great detailed comments and advice.

I have to say the more I get excited about it the more I’m feeling like its a really delicate rig. Hand Held applications might be tuff…

  • WEll… I guess the cineporter question is out the window…

They aren’t even selling these things yet. I just spoke to them and they said they are reengineering the housing. Good cuz right now the pics on their website show a prototype shaped machine shop thing…

They also said that they are actually doing their best to make the noise generated by a fan a non issue. That I guess, at least means that they are aware that we don’t want Wooooooshhhshshsh in all our shots. good. It may mean that they are doing away with a fan altogether… I’m not a tech though so I’m not sure if its possible based off their other hardware.

End of the story though is the less feature rich Firestor FS100 is available and the Cineporter is not. That seems to be the story even as far back as NAB06.

Egh hem…its time guys! Release the hounds!

are the chips different than what’s in the HDX900? Is the only difference the Tape/P2?

Also what’s the latest on the HVX200 being upgraded to be able to record the H.264 format? Going to buy one at the beginning of 07. Will it also be upgradeable with firmware or a new board?

    Thanks

So does pooch work with compressor? What about when you’re outputting from FCP using QTconversion or creating a QT file?

    Does clustering help Cleaner?

    Thanks
