Great minds think alike!
I actually am using the 1550. I previously used it with my VX2000. It’s a perfect fit, and it holds the camera, the AC adapter, several cards and a couple of batteries with a little room to spare.

I don’t have an answer to your specific question, but, I think you might want to reconsider editing EX footage on a G4 Powerbook. I’m doing various tests right now with my own Powerbook, and, although everything works (even though it’s not supposed to), the rendering and conforming times are astronomical. Right now, I’m attempting to encode an 8 minute sequence to an SD mp2 file for a DVD. No matter whether I export directly from an XDCAM sequence, or copy that timeline and drop it into an SD-DV sequence, Compressor is telling me that it is going to take at least 3 hours to encode my 8 minute sequence. That’s on a 1.5 ghz G4 Powerbook running FCP 6. I’ve got a same-day edit coming up soon, and I know I’m going to think about either taking my MacPro or buying a new MacBook Pro before then.

Hey Craig,
Can you burn a data DL-DVD in OS 10.4 or do you need Toast for that? I have an older version of Toast that does not support dual-layer discs.

That’s the problem, Craig. If you drop the HD clip into the SD timeline and then do a speed change, you get field order problems. You have to apply the speed change first and save it out as a separate Quicktime movie before bringing it into your SD sequence. Try it.

How do you plan to get the footage from the camera to the DSR20?
The deck has no SDI or component inputs. Are you going to transfer to the computer first and then out to tape? Just wondering, because I was considering the same approach. -
The only problem I’ve encountered with this method is when speeding up or slowing down footage in FCP. For some reason, with this function, the field order isn’t changed, so you have to apply the effect to the original HD clip, render, and then save it as a .mov before adding it to your SD timeline. Kind of a hassle! I don’t know if there might be other filters that might be affected by this issue.

OK, I got it, David. I got confused, because a couple of the posters were talking about using it as a production monitor or field monitor. I’m looking for a reasonable solution for an edit monitor since I just bought a Sony EX. I don’t really need an i/o card for anything other than driving the monitor.

Don’t I need something like a Matrox MXO or a Blackmagic or Kona card in order to use this as an HD program monitor on a Mac Pro? Is that what you mean by a DVI to HDMI adaptor?
