Big advantages? meh… One is if you use AE heavily. Dynamic Linking is pretty nice.

Also, it has a mixer if you care about that.

FWIW, bringing FCP 7 projects into Pr is kind of a pain audio-wise as all interleaved stereo ends up as split mono as it is in 7. But Pr doesn’t make it easy to pair it up other than match back, change audio config in the master, and overcut. No OPT-L analog. Working with split mono “stereo” tracks in Pr is no fun. And by no fun, I mean awful. Going to X via 7toX usually has much better results honestly.

Built in AAF from Pr is nice, though X2Pro creates much nicer PT sessions using Roles.

The Pr UI sometimes feels a little “snappier” as it doesn’t redraw “live” when you move clips around just like 7, MC etc.

ummm… I dunno, what else? Built in tracked masks, though Slice X crushes it. Basically it does things out of the box that you’d have to spend a couple hundred bucks or so to do (better) in X via 3’rd parties.

I think the biggest advantage it has is that it’s easy to jump into it from 7, at least on the surface…

(begin snark). But it has tracks, which suck. 😉 (end snark)

True, but in this case not so much, All SFX, no music, and the heads/tails of the audio wasn’t really a big deal. Long rises to hits, hits with tail outs, designed sfx under pix etc. Ya know… typical horror film :30 TV. 😉

Yeah, there are some things I kinda miss about 7 when in X, but there are lots more things I miss about X when I’m in 7 or Pr…

It would have been easier to do this in MC than 7. It wasn’t the rippling that was the problem, it that there were many clips that overlapped different sections so there was no way around track tetris. I mean, it was fine, but it woulda been easier in X. That’s all I was trying to say, my intent wasn’t to stir sh*t up. 🙂

edited as I see you weren’t talking about cutting all layers, but trimming…

Not sure that helps Bill… And to be fair, there are plenty of workflows where tracks serve a purpose. Mine isn’t one of them.

Yeah…basically, if you wanted to email it to Jeremy or someone, you just attach it to an email as you would any file, and it does the rest. It will show attached to the email for folks who have iCloud, or as a link to download it for anyone else. Just an easy way to transfer fairly large files…

FWIW, if you’re on Yosemite with iCloud Drive enabled, you can email a file up to 5GB in size. Just sent a 3.9 GB file the other day. It works great, but there’s very little indication in Mail as to the progress so just let it do it’s thing. If you have relatively fast internet though it’s pretty cool, and didn’t take too long at all.

Just a thought if you want to try it…

Also, and you may already do this, turn off any type of audio analysis in the import prefs, including “group stereo separate mono”.

edit: tested it, it works… might have to put a title or something with the file name overlayed on the clip, but it’s a pretty cool liittle tool!
