Basically it adds the functions from an app, or new functions, into another app. Kind of like Color Finale or mObject in FCP X. A new UI opens up in Photos so you can do stuff without switching to another app.

Check out the demos in the link above… Select a photo in Photos, choose Edit, select an Extension, and all sorts of fun stuff appears. 🙂

Not really sure about that. I use it with an iMac and stick Events on the main monitor, and timeline on the wide monitor. I use the event viewer, or I’ll just move it all back to a single window on the wide monitor if I want everything all in front of me…

Yep, that should be fine… give it a unique Role and make sure you set the the export to Roles as Multitrack Quicktime Movie and set the format to surround. 🙂

Oh, I’ll definitely give you those points. But really, both apps have their strengths and weaknesses. I guess if I did more key framing I might feel differently, but I spend more time rearranging bits in the timeline, slogging through footage looking for the 15 frame shot I know is somewhere, previewing A and V effects, creating titles, cheating dialog, doing speed changes to audio to get mx/sfx cuts to work etc. IMO, X beats the pants off Pr for that sort of thing. When I’m in Pr I keep X open with a mirror project ‘cuz it’s exponentially easier to find needles in the X haystack, and go right to it in Pr. Especially auditioning SFX.

No point in NLE wars though… I use ’em both. 🙂

Yeah, don’t do that. 🙂 Not being flippant, there are certainly times when you need to; cheating dialog, using effects under different shots etc. And sync indication of some sort would definitely be a good thing. But most of the time, especially with sync dialog, expanding A/V or the components of multichannel audio lets you do everything you need. If you do detach the audio, take a second to ensure it’s connected to the proper video clip.
