Correct. Mark an in and out, assign a keyword (or multiple keywords) you’ve created and smart collections of the same name will appear containing just the “clips” tagged with that keyword. Essentially “bins” of selects. The same “clip” can appear in multiple collections. Anytime you add a keyword it will automatically put the “clip” (really just the tagged region) into the collection. Super easy. 😉

Agreed. I’m working on a project now… promo reel for a studio. I have 30 features as sources, all of which I need to go through and pull selects from. Using the skimmer, Smart Collections and 9 keywords I’m flying through this stuff. Need an “action” shot? click the collection with that name and all the shots I’ve tagged as such, from all the films, show up in a “bin” ready to go. In FCP7 I’d be in hell right about now. It’s great.

It works for enough people that implying it is unstable or flakey without specifically saying what you mean, or bothering to find out why, seems to me a reflection of the user and not of the software.”

And I hope it never is, except maybe as an option. The nice thing about X is that you can edit during playback. Having the clips be a moving target would be awful in my opinion. 🙂

FWIW, I went through everything I have… SliceX, gadget, luminous, pigment and shatter effects all work fine. The SliceX adjust title plugins work fine. The C2 Free Templates transitions all work fine…

…But the 3 Delta V Motion transitions and the 4 Trx Filmic transitions immediately crash FCP X every time.

And while having a second ear is always a good thing, that 2nd ear generally comes out of my pocket, so I do pay careful attention to my mix.”

I hear ya. (pun intended) I get pretty detailed with my mixes too. And in the interest of full disclosure, I used to hate sending spots to be mixed, because invariably it wouldn’t sound like what I had done. So I’d tweak it, go to mixes, and be the annoying client I always hated when I was a mixer… well, not really, but I was a frame-f**ker, albeit a considerate one, at times. Now? phhtt. If the client’s happy and there’s no important audio missing, I’m happy. Jaded? Yep. 😉
