[mark harvey] “and I also do not feel comfortable putting my name on it…”

I don’t remember how many slates I didn’t put my name on, or how many lables didn’t have a facility logo.
Sometimes ya gotta do the job even if the client wants something you are against, ya just don’t say who did it.

Several years ago, I was put into a project for the US Congress’s attempt to get former USSR countries to bid for business in the privatization of these countries. There was to be an auction and people were given script to use in the bidding for these business, This was in Muldova, There were two versions of each commercial. One version was in Russian, with cyrilic graphics the other in Romanian with Romanian graphics. One problem is that when Russia took over Romanian countries they outlawed the written Romanian language so we didn’t know exactly how the written language should be depicted. I had to edit these to scripts already set up. Needless to say I don’t speak either Russian or Romanian. the really funny part was after the project was finished we were told we needed to create the same commercials in english so they could be seen by the US Congress to let them know what was actualy being said.

We many times are asked to do things beyond our education level, we must be able to adapt and go with it.

[Jason Powell] “One thing I do notice about editing to library music is that by its very nature, a “fast” cut is going to have the same beats per minute across the library”

In reality all music has the same beat pattern, measured in time, whether it is a slow ballad or a hard acid rock. The time of the beat is determined by the heart rate of the person leading the music. Since heart beats are around the 60 beat per minute rate all music is rated at about that rate. The kewy is the accent beats of the music and making the video match that.

The year was 1975, we got our new Grass Valley 1600-7G switcher, God I felt like I had reached heaven. My first client came in and his first words were, “I want to use some of those great new transitions you got.” I replied, “No you don’t.” He said no? I said nope.

As Grinner said, I have slipped backward now tho since I create video for the High Tech Marquees at Caesars Palace and Ballys on the strip here in Las Vegas, ya just gotta go with the glitzy look of Las Vegas. I’m not thrilled about it but I do it, well let me say I have been doing it.

Tomorrow is my last day. I am joining the ranks of the unemployed as a retiree. I will still have my fingers in the pie as a consultant, but I ain’t working no more.

I told Ron and Kathlyn that they might want to remove me as a forum leader, since I will be removed from actual work, but they haven’t done it yet. I will still be around checking up on things, but probably as with teh last year, not as often as before.

I love all of you guys and gals.

Yep Tim always says it better than I can, but we agree alot as with Mark. I have been told that I edit to music when there is no music. I guess this is probably true, in some ways. If I have no track at all to edit to, I will create the video to my pacing as to what I feel, then after I see it, then the music starts to enter my head. I am so thrilled when I add music and everything works and I don’t have to change a thing, but sometimes I need a little tweek here and there. Ya just gotta go with what makes ya feel good.

I render my starting files in AVI uncompressed, and it meets all broadcast standards, but then I am working with a PC. When requested for Quicktime, I render with animation codec. Quicktime is slightly larger when rendered than AVI, but the results are extremely similar.
