Running a full version of Resolve 10.1 on Mac OSX 10.8.5

When I go into Database manager I have two databases. Both are Disk databases. I can see the other projects and Icons at log in.

Last night I ended up going back to an old system disk 10.6.8 and Resolve 9 and was able to import the projects. Then re exported to projects and was able to then bring those projects into DR10. As you suggest above.

For future reference how do I enable PostgreSQL? When I do a find for that in the manual it comes up empty.

    Thanks!

That is odd you don’t see the CUDA in sys prefs. perhaps your machine does not have the driver installed? That could def impact your performance. I had to boot into my 10.6.8 system last night and I saw the CUDA in my sys prefs so I know that it should be there on your machine. A quick google got me this link.
    https://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html
Perhaps check to see what is the latest version that runs on 10.6.8.

As far as ATI cards there are a few choices out there that can be found on Ebay etc that have more ram and are faster than some of the Mac native cards.

When I hit + in the database manager page and try and make a new database, select the QPSQL under the driver I get an error stating.

“Failed to open database connection: could not connect to server: Connection refused. Is the server running on host “127.0.0.1” and accepting TCP/IP connection on port 5432?
    QPSQL: unable to connect”

If I search the manual for TCP/IP what I find only covers remote grading. It all seems very clear on page 726 however I am getting the above error.

Am I correct in assuming that my .backup file will only come into a shared database?

I have tried importing the project that was made I think in Resolve 8 into 10.1 and it only has half the grades or less. Most of the R3D clips have no grade applied. The clips that do hold the grades were one that I had named i.e. Mother CU etc.

Under the apple menu open your system preferences and at the bottom of the pane you should see CUDA. Click on that to open it and it should tell you if you need to update the CUDA driver. Provided you are connected to the internet. If there is a new driver you should update.

I am running FCPX 10.1.1 and getting much better performance than I was a year ago with my GTX 285. However it was never running as bad as your setup. Is your playback bad even after you render your effects in the timeline? Have you tried selecting “better performance” in the FCPX preferences? I am looking forward to getting an ATI card into my machine soon.

It does not like Fred either ! Looking for the DB folder now and I do not see it in the file path stated on page 729 of the manual.

Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinciResolve then I should see the DB folder correct? For some reason I don’t see one in this location.

Dwaine – Thanks for your response. Yes I have given the backup that I can pulling in a new label name and new database name each time. Then it comes back with this error saying that it already exists. Hmm.

Will give that a shot thanks!!

  • So two months on and still waiting for a fix!

  • OK looks like operator error on my part. Somehow angle A and B were compound clips. Not sure how that happened. Cutting in the original clips now as “break apart clip items” does not seem to be working in the mc.
Thanks to Gregory at Intelligent Assistance for bring this to my attention!!
