Oliver, I have been working with Lumaforge and they have been amazing. I posted here because we haven’t found a solution yet and I was curious if others have had their waveforms go offline.
Have you guys had this problem? Are your Jellyfish shares SMB? Do you keep your cashe external and on the Jellyfish?

Just spit-balling here with out testing… could you right+click on the temp audio and open it and sync your new audio inside it?

September 6, 2018 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Two editors, two drives, same media – can’t reconnect XML import.[Tangier Clarke] “The original file didn’t have audio, but the new file does.”
We run into this problem also. We are on FCPX 10.3.4 so it isn’t just a 10.4 problem. I have been going with the theory that when the media was imported originally, FCPX removed “silent channels” from the clip so relinking sees a difference in the number of audio tracks and thus won’t relink. But I haven’t had time to test this theory.
So far, we haven’t found a solution for relinking and have resorted to re-importing the media. Thankfully it hasn’t happened to a complex edit so re-importing hasn’t been a big deal. Needless to say, we don’t EVER import and have FCPX remove silent channels.
One thought, maybe the XML be changed to include audio before you import it?

Bummer.

Apple script is pretty cool. But just in case you are interested, check out this article on how to create an Audio Only transition using Motion. https://www.provideocoalition.com/audio-only-cross-fades-in-final-cut-pro-x/

My guess would be that the database became corrupt when the crash happened and has forgotten about the event itself.
This is a dangerous suggestion, but have you opened the Library package to see if your event and project are still in there? If they are you could try a few things to get it back.
Remember this is dangerous so I suggest duplicating your full library then messing around inside the duplicate. For instance you could first open the duplicate and try creating a new event with a new name. Then close X, open the package and move the project folder into the new event folder. Maybe it will show up?

“I have not used either of these programs so I can’t comment personally, but I have seen people mention Carbon Copy Cloner.
As for your 1-3 Hard Drive cloner, I would suggest looking to see how it handles one changed file between two drives. I never want to recopy everything to a drive that already has 90% of the data on it. Maybe Carbon Copy Cloner can identify the differences between two drives and keep them equal? It would be nice to have one software for all… as long as it is easy to use and keeps the user errors to a minimum.

Oh good. Glad it wasn’t a bug.

August 1, 2018 at 8:31 pm in reply to: Huge Project to edit in FCP X / How to optimal storage & WorkflowTadeas, you have some good questions here and your huge project sounds like a fun one. I’ve been working on documentaries for about 15 years so I understand huge. Currently I have about 90TB of media that I am accessing with much more archived on LTFS tapes in case we need it in the future.
Q1: The other guys have answered this one pretty well. I like cheep drives in multiple locations as long as you spin them up yearly. But I am guessing you are doing that after ever shoot when you copy more media to them. ☺
Q2: I wouldn’t wait for everything to be finished before starting to work with the footage. I would start making selects after each shoot while it is still fresh in your head – favoriting clips, rejecting footage, keywording everything.
All of our footage is organized in the Finder by trip date and camera card. I always leave media in place when importing so my Library file is small and I can move it or back it up whenever needed. This is also essential when working with multiple editors. I can give a second editor a copy of the footage on a second hard drive, then we can pass edits back and forth via XML (or transfer libraries when custom or third party effects are used).
When offloading cards we use Hedge. It is great at making verified copies to multiple drives. I also use Goodsync to make sure two drives have the identical media (ie between editors). If I (or another editor) add footage to our local drive, I can sync the all the drives to match.
Q3: I have not had luck with storing massive amounts of media online. It takes too long to upload and costs to much to store the huge amounts of media we are dealing with.
Best of luck with your project!

Simon, I have had a few odd issues like this. One question for you first.
In your 1080 timeline, what spacial conform setting was applied to your images? Fit, Fill, None? If none was chosen, then your scaling issues make sense and you will have to redo your scaling moves. If the images were set to fit or fill then you are seeing a oddity and could try one of the below options.
The solutions I have found for odd scaling issues have been to restart FCPX which seemed to jog its memory and make the spacial conform calculate correctly. I have had to do this when relinking my original 4K footage to my small proxy media (created myself). This doesn’t sound like your problem, but restarting is easy so I suggest it.
The second solution has been to recut the clip back in. This is my least favorite but thankfully it was only one shot. I selected the bad clip and revealed it in the finder, then hit Q to drop it on top of the bad clip. I copied and pasted attributes and deleted the bad clip. Solved.
Of course neither of these could solve your issue, but I hope it helps.
