    I used the split method and was able to isolate the clip so that the effect only applied to it. However, I still ran into the same problem with the effect starting at the beginning of the source clip. Like if you double-click the clip, it shows the entire source video in the display and I can see the effect happening right at the beginning. Usually with basic effects I’d be able to fix this with a couple keyframes, but the shatter effect is pretty convoluted and doesn’t really have a way to set when the shatter occurs.

    Okay I’ll use the method I described since I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. And using copyrighted material never stopped me or anyone on youtube ^_-

    I just tried using the Import DVD Camcorder Disc function but received an error about halfway through. It said something along the lines of the disc being corrupt, but I know for a fact that disc is fine. Since it is a movie, would this be a problem with the copyright protection? If so is there a workaround for this? The only thing I can think of would be to rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter and then re-burn it to another disc without copyright protection and try it again.
