Hi, I’m creating a DVD (standard ntsc dv widescreen), this is why I selected the mpeg2-dvd preset from media encoder .
Isn’t this correct?

Oh. Now I understand….I guess I was hoping for the same results as converting to mpeg4. that file format retaines the audio track. I thought converting to mpeg2-dvd would do the same. Oh well…at least I learned a valuable lesson.

ok. the files I’m seeing after converting the .avi file into mpeg2-dvd are:

projectfilename.wav (I can hear it when I play it separately)

projectfilename.m2v
(when I play it, there’s no audio track, just the movie )

projectfilename.xmpses

projectfilename.xmp

So I guess I have to combine the .wav file and the .m2v file in another software (such as adobe encore) to get the audio track to play? I was hoping that the conversion from .avi to mpeg2-dvd would include the audio track. Isn’t this supposed to be the case?

Muxed? I’ve never heard that term before but I always love learning new stuff. I’ll try your suggestion right away and see what I come up with. If it turns out that the audio got muxed, what would be the next step?

I converted the mp3 sound files into wav and added them to my movie. Exported from ae with the same settings,then converted the .avi into mpeg dvd using adobe media encoder. The audio is still gone. What else could I be doing wrong?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Since then, I’ve been running tests and I found that outputting from media encoder using “match source attributes at highest quality” makes the image a bit sharper. I can live with this little improvement.

Also, I was gratified to learn from you that I’ve done all of the right things to try and get the best image possible for DVD. I can live with the results.
