    Interesting development :

When I switch the setting in the ‘Advanced Media handling’ prefs for ‘Resolve data references’ and ‘Set high quality flag’ to off (deselect) the media plays fine in the details panel. It still doesn’t play correctly in the separate viewer.

    Cheers

Thanks guys, but can’t confirm that it only happens with a certain size. On my machine the problem appears regardless what size the QT window or wether its inside the CatDV window or opened separately.

    Cheers

Also just tried my other partition with has OSX 10.7.2 and FCP Studio 3 (full installation of all apps) on it and in this combo the clip plays fine in CatDV and QT player X

    I’m on QT player X, OSX 10.7.2.
How could I revert back to v1.6 of the HDV codec?
    Cheers

Not to question any of your test, as I think they are very valid approaches.

Because it’s curious that FCPx is slower, could it be it is because it always renders floating point (32bit)
And if this is the case and the others don’t, would that make FCPx actually much faster (though of course not in real terms)

Kind of: Final Cut x is almost as fast as everybody else rendering in a much higher precision.

Of course you wouldn’t always see the difference (as you don’t always see it between 8bit to 10bit), but higher quality is better, right?

    I’m guessing here. Any thoughts?

  • If you do either of those things you’d get FCP8…

I’d be pissed off if Apple would buckle under the perceived pressure of public forums and start making things the way they were. I think the new Multicam shows that they are striving to advance things, even if it might not be obvious from the beginning.

There are 2 NLE’s with viewer and tracks out there. Plenty of choice if you don’t like FCPx.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say ‘shut up and put up’.

I’m just thinking that you might be missing something only because you are used to seeing it, not because you truly need it. It might be easier for you if you have them because that’s what you are used too. But do you really, really need them. If I gain screen real estate for not having something I do not really need, aren’t my benefits higher without them in long run?

    just some thought,
    Carsten

Curious that you will support ioHD with FCPx but not with your Control Room Software.

    Not that I complain 🙂

I guess most fear about the future of the ioHD stemmed from the fact that you dropped the Control Room support.

But to say something positive: Thank you for not giving up on old hardware as it is usually the case!

Looking forward to things to come

Because I have projects from the last 10 years which contain footage I still want to use.
Even if the media is backed up it would take me a long time to restore (tens of hours of footage on LTO per project, and there are many).
I spent weeks and weeks describing all the shots and it would be nice if I could translate that to X, but I think the only real workable solution is CatDV.

I understand that 7toX will work for many people, but I wanted to make users aware of this specific limitation.

Of course it was my mistake to not read the fine print 🙂

The only thing that’s really dying is the type of post industry you represent Aindreas 🙂

And repeating your mantra doesn’t make it more true.

We know that you are bitterly disappointed byFCPx but I very much challenge your view that FCPx is dead.

The truth is that nobody knows. Adobe Prelude is for me the best example that the ‘olld’ guard is already trying to play catch up with a game that hasn’t even started yet. Skate to where the pug will be….

Anyhow I sincerely hope you’ll overcome your trauma one day, because I do not wish anybody the suffering you’re going through.

I go and buy some skates now…
