He did tell me that I could capture using the USB port, but I honest don’t see how. He said that he can do that with his laptop and it just depends on the type of camera you have. I told the sales assistant the two types of camera I had, although he didn’t really spend a lot of time going into that, he basically used the information I gave him to dismiss the fact that there was no point in me buying an apple mac as Sony aren’t recognised devices by Apple..so he took me the PC route.

    Sigh..onwards and upwards.

Hopefully it’ll get sorted or it’s been a costly mistake for me that’s for sure.

    Cheers guys.

It is a shocker that there’s no port….I couldn’t believe it when I realised. He sold it on it’s processing speed as it’s a quad processor with 4 Gb RAM…500 Gb hard drive..so I just thought that all sounded fantastic and based on any other laptop I’ve had (which I have managed to edit on) I expected it to fly along..and I daresay it would if I could just get the footage in it!

Well..I’ve been looking at my legal rights and have a couple of pages I’ve printed from the Fair Trading Act and the Sale of Goods Act which basically highlight that they sold me a product which is not fit for purpose and I specifically stated the puprose. So this is the route I’ll take I guess. Although he’s already told me I want get another machine but if I show him these pages and then say I’m taking it the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs then it might sway him. We’ll see what happens.

Thanks for backing up what I thought already though.

    Hi there,

    Sorry..nope..no slot 🙁

I just found this which says MPG2 is four times less quality than AVI. So I’m not hugely happy about the external fix they’ve given me.

    https://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/Difference_betwwen_Mpeg_and_DVAVI_files.htm

Mini DV through IEEE 1394 is the same quality as what’s on the camera..so it says..so I’d like to try and keep that if I can.

I could kick myself for not checking it when I walked out the shop. There is something which is similar in shape but on closer inspection it’s basically just a hole!..kinda looks like maybe other models may have the firewire port here. Sigh…unreal. Could all be so much easier if I’d just noticed that…or if the guy had advised me. He did ask me what type of camera I had..we never even discussed getting the footage of it..I just assumed this laptop had the port…unfortunately I’m 2 months down the line now..still have the receipt but they’re not happy about giving me another machine that’s for sure..they’d rather fix what’s happening although I’m not happy about it.

    Thanks for suggesting.

    Hi there,

it’s a Sony DSR-PD150P Although not the camcorder I wanted to use but it’s the only one I’ve got that has 3 phono’s.

    Should have added that..you’re right..soz.

    Hi there,

I’ve now tried converting to a .wav file and imported it into AE. I’ve dragged it onto the timeline and yet again it’s not playing. When I double click on the .wav file in AE it opens up in a little window with the facility to click on a triangle and listen to it that way. I can see the actual wave format when I twisty down into the file..so I know it’s there..just can’t hear it.

Surely there must be a way to listen to the files ..how else can you time the animations??…is this a glich in AE?

I though it might be some “properties” “settings” “display” type check box I didn’t know about to allow the file to be heard through the project.

    Can anyone else please help???…sob.

    Regards

    Carol Ann
