    I have done some more tests:
    – I turned off the preview in vegas capture and things pretty much cleared up
    – running the tape through the rewinder ( forward and back ) seems to also improve the reliability of the capture

    I think it might be a camera issue… which was a result of having a bad batch of tapes from panasonic
    I’ve switched to sony tapes and things are looking good.

    I have tried 4 different PCs and 3 different cables
    very strange…

    the footage was shot on LP ( err )
    though I’ve seen this happen on SP footage but not as severe

    I’ll do more tests untill I get to the bottom of this

    Hi Peter,

    it wasn’t the hardrive…
    since I would see the dropouts on the preview without even actually capturing to the hardrive
