I just sent your suggestion to my editor and hopefully I will be able to tell you the results soon. He is currently working with Final Touch in a feature film and he is gladly surprised on how much easier is to his eyes after spending eight hours a day color correcting. One thing you have to be careful is to name the files with a _ underline between spaces as Final Touch will not read the files like you can do with any other Mac document.

Somehow the clip we took from FCP to FT looked degraded in quality, we couldn’t explain why. Mi intuition tells me that DVCPRO50 is a wonderfull codec for capturing but that does poorly when is manipulated. As mentioned in an earlier post, coming from tape and outputting SDI out seems seems to be the best solution so far. Does anybody knows if there is a P2 deck/device that does SDI out, or that doesn’t make any sense?

    Hi Jeremy,
We first tried Final Touch but somehow it looked fuzzy, so we went back to Final Cut and did some testing. We edited in Final cut.

February 18, 2006 at 4:22 am in reply to: HVX200 best SD workflow

    Hi Barry,
I am about to shoot two music videos with the HVX200 this coming week and I am finishing with a digibeta master so I would like to shoot in DV50 but I still want to uses the variable speed options in some shots….How would you go about it? mixing 720P HD with the DV50, or shoot everything in in HD?. I am planning to color correct in SDI uncompressed with the finished master.

    Thank you in advance,

I have a project starting the 20th of January for 4 days that is perfect for this camera, is it unrealistic to think that if I buy one in the coming weeks (put deposit)to get it before my shooting date?? If if not possible, I will have to get a Varicam otherwise.

In my experience I got better keys with the SDX900 (DVCPRO50)coming out uncompressed SDI at 10 bits than with HD, in HDCAM or DVCPRO100 codec. Uncompressed HD in the other hand…..but I think is an overkill unless you plan to finish in HD. I even think Digibeta keys better than HD.
If you care for resolution, always try to plan in using an HD Lens with any of these cameras.

Here are my two cents based in 5 shows as DP with similar set up:

1.Use white balance presets for all three cameras. They will match better at post, trust me. Just change from 3.2K to 5.6K
2.Try not to go below 2.8 aperture as the lens, doesn

I have used the firewire Datavideo switcher with three cameras and the live edited version looks as good as the master tapes. It works very nicely.

John, the reason I ask is because DP Peter Gray have given an interesting explanation on how Dynamic range works different on the Varicam than in the Cine Alta F900.
