Try using Scribble AND Stroke together to make the effect and Roughen Edges to add some variation.
1. Clean up the image in photoshop or illustrator. (use single-color vector graphics if possible)
2. Use the Layer-> AutoTrace: Check the “Apply to new layer” box and select the appropriate channel in the drop down box. (This should generate masks in the shape of your logo/image)
3. Effect –> Generate –> Stroke: Check “All Masks” and “Stroke Sequentially”
4. Animate the “Start” and/or “End” values to get the desired effect.
5. Effect –> Generate –> Scribble: The “Scribble” value should be “All Masks Using Modes”
5. Animate the “Start” and/or “End” values for the Scribble Effect
6. Adjust color values as you see fit.
7. Effect –> Stylize –> Roughen Edges : Adjust as you see fit
At least that’s the gist of it. Try messing with the values to get the desired effect.
Hope it helps!
