    Richard,
You can work around the issues you are having (until 9.0 comes out). When files start to get mixed up and corrupted, save the project as a VEG file, close Vegas and re-open the VEG file. That usually restores those files, its a pain, but it works.Vegas has trouble seeing AVCHD files and its random when it decides to go blind!

Unfortunetly it is probably the AVCHD files. Especially if they are AVCCAM files from Panasonic. I am also having many of those issues with my AVCCAM files. Make sure you have 8.1 and that you quickly upgrade to 9.0. 9.0 should fix most of the bugs associated with the AVCHD (hopefully).

You can always edit the files using a different codec, this would solve all the problems, but it will add another step to the workflow, which ironically, is the step AVCHD is supposed to get rid of.

    John,
Yes, it sometimes happens when I render too. I have a killer editing setup, so I can’t believe its my computer. Though I forgot to mention I am editing AVCCAM files directly, could that be the issue?

    Thanks Douglas,

What format do you usually use to render your projects for HD master tapes?

Mainly just want to handle footage for clients, I am a cinematographer, not an editor, but I want a Mac Book Pro so I can show clients footage in the field for them to review. And maybe convert RAW footage to something (quicktime)I can ship off to them for review.

I love the RED cameras, but my clients are demanding more editing and workflow knowledge on my part, so I am trying to get up to speed and offer more options.
