The only time you ever need “best” is when doing frame rate conversions, or when using higher than 720×480 source material.

Vegas is very slow at rendering. In your case — changing a widescreen project to 4:3 is a re-render of the entire project.

Other softwares can take the same file and send to tape without any rendering. I often use Vegas to render out single files, then print to tape using something else. I’ve never understood why Vegas still does the whole render to W64 audio of the whole project before a print to tape.

Let’s hope that Vegas begins to catch up with their competitors in this area. Print to tape and Text Creation are very, very weak. Maybe these will someday get the depth of the rest of this program. Until then — we just have to deal with excruciatingly long renders.

NONE. I’ve yet to see a Sony laptop that I thought was worth the hefty price. Not only are they over priced, and over rated, but they are over flowing with extra software that eats away resources.

For the same $$ you can get much more computer from just about any other manufacturer.

Here’s how to make Vegas 6 just as stable as V5:
Go into your preferences, to the general tab, and scroll all the way down to three entries from the bottom. Turn off the check box that enables the “Media Manager” and then close and re-open Vegas. I’ve had nary a hiccup since turning off this resource hog.

  • Nancy — I want this to sound polite, but I’m not sure how to word it. You simply have no idea what you are talking about here. The exact same team that was Sonic Foundry is the exact same team under “Sony Pictures Digital Networks” now. Only the parent company has changed. All the main developers are still there, with even new ones added. And, there is great access ot all the Sony hardware.

So — please get your information correct before saying things as if you are in the know.
