Hey, as a best practice, I’d leave the defaults alone.
Mainly because “online” isn’t arbitrary, it shows the system if it can work with a file, if a script can run etc.
I’d create a USER field to handle the archive status, if I were doing it.
As to changing the clips all at once, yes, if you watch my demo on YouTube, it’s one of the first things I do.
Select All clips in the catalog or query results.
Find the field you want to change in the Details Panel.
Change it and save. All records are updated.
Was your rig sold without integration or training? A day or two of setup and training will save you weeks of guessing and posting.

I’m pretty sure that’s the correct behavior.
If you don’t create a “server query” I don’t believe that will become active. There’s no need for it.
If you define any Server Query, it should light up and be checked.
The three boxes correspond to the different parts of the app but if you’re not using either the watcher or the server queries, you can leave them unchecked.
Check that, and report back if there’s a problem.

Names must match.
This makes you able to edit proxy in FCP and relink immediately.
Any proxy creation script must preserve the name and be able to place the files in place in the proxy structure.

I’m assuming you mean proxy for media in a catalog. If so, the proxy can be from anywhere as long as they are named correctly and in the right directory in the proxy path.
/Volumes/media_drive/folder/file.mov = hires
/Volumes/proxy_drive/folder/file.mov = proxy
For instance.
That’s how the big boys do proxy for hundreds of thousands of clips. Worker is awesome but it’s not meant for 200 hours a day of transcoding. 😉

You can cut and paste them record by record, or, if it’s enough work you could get it done at the command line by one of our techs if you need. (Rolf usually does this sort of thing but he’s kind of hard to get)
How many records is it? Could you do it manually?

Because I’m not under NDA with Apple and can freely dispense rumors. lol I’ll pitch in.
From what I know, most companies do programming in “blocks”. I’m sure Apple is the same. There’s no way to know what is coming in any one “block” but I would guess that we’ll hear updates on 1 to 3 month cycles (again, no way to know what Apple’s cycles are) and if I had to further guess, which I do cause I don’t know a damn thing for certain, the first block would just be bug fixes and so maybe 2 to 6 months til anything “real” happens as far as additions. (I have heard that XML is “important” to them.)
Now, Mr. Jones, why do you claim that that doesn’t matter a bit to my organization?
1 – If you are stable now, stay on FCP7… as long as you can. My largest Avid shops are on 3.1.3 and refuse to upgrade because they like it and see no reason. (current version is 5.5x)
How???? -see any forum online about ways that folks are getting FCP7 while buying X.
This is pretty commonly done and in fact, I’ve seen it since FCP 5 and most any larger consulting/integration company will, privately, admit to this. Apple simply gives you no other alternative if you are in production already. For the record, I will not do this but I can’t stop a client from doing it. If you’re big, bug your rep to let you add to your Volume License. I see this as buying you 6 months to 2 years. (Remember how long we used those G5’s?)
2 – A lot of my integrations don’t actually use the FCP links that much. (what?!) Read that again… although we show them in demos and they are wonderful, asset management can be done incredibly effectively with no hook to the editing system and a lot of clients simply import their assets without using the FCP data. (Especially in workflows where we hit CatDV first before FCP ingest) Yes, this is heresy, and yes, it’s actually often the case. Not many of the big-iron MAM solutions have any hooks to the editing systems so we know it can be done. And I’ve done tons of Avid shops that until recently had to way to send and receive metadata to CatDV. (thank the Lord for MME) And those work fine as well.
The main issues on this board seem to be media tracking and archiving. Neither of them actually requires a link to the edit flow to work. If you have a solid naming convention and good project layouts, you can drop the media into CatDV and go about your way.
Will I applaud the day that FCPX can transmit data into CatDV and receive it? Yes… will I cease asset management operations until then? No way. There’s so much media being created and not tracked that each day we wait puts us further and further in the hole. Start now…

Jason, I’ll totally buzz you when I get back to the states. I’m out of the country working until Sunday. This likely could be something that we could remote unless there’s a ton of training needed.
Sounds like you don’t have enough XDCAM to justify the transfer/archive project unless you need an offsite copy.
But remember, MXF is a wrapper, not a codec so you can be able to read one kind of MXF and not have the software to read others. Think of it like h.264 can be in a flash (flv) wrapper or an mp4 wrapper or a QT wrapper, (.mov) but they are still all h.264 on the inside.

Jason we copy them to a drive and then just log them in CatDV with Calibrated software. You could work off of the disc but it’s so slow I’d advise against it. (sony’s fault, not CatDV)
I just did a project where we took a client’s XDCAM and copied them all to a server and then archived them to Cache-A LTO. For each 2 (1 live 1 backup) LTO tapes we made, we got back $1000-$1200 profit in reusable XDCAM discs.
2 – LTO5 tapes = $200
25 XDCAM discs = $1400 (at $56 each)
So after 11 loads you’ve paid off your Cache-A. Not a bad way to get a cool archive appliance for “free” and an offsite copy of your media too. How many XDCAM discs are sitting on your shelf? 😉
AS to the Calibrated stuff, blame Sony for not bringing us a QT codec. You have to buy the Calibrated sadly… But the good news is that they are good guys who make a great product.

First, thank you for the detailed data.
the FCSvr export isn’t too hard for a good FCSvr admin so I’ve partnered with a couple of solid guys and we will handle the import into CatDV. (they speak nicely to each other over XML).
Secondly, there are plenty of folks who can help you script that proxy delivery out here but if you tackle it yourself, know that CatDV can easily export the path along with the file you are transcoding in an XML and with a little magic you can make sure it lands right where it’s supposed to land.
The Server and Worker make automations like that possible whereas the client is strictly a manual, albeit powerful, piece.
