Yes, they will. Also nice, is that even if the .cdv Catalog format changes, all the metadata is exportable as XML so you’re never stuck.
A client recently paid their old DAM company a lot of money to export their data out of the old system and then paid us to format it for import into CatDV. Something to think about when choosing a system. Can I “pack up and go?”

The metadata exchange should be fairly easy from a lot of systems.
Look for any system that will output an XML with the video captured (tons do this.) Or, you can simply set up a naming schema that contains metadata and CatDV can extract it upon import. (Admittedly, this is of limited use, but it works.)
As to building a playlist, I know the Softron system, for example can take an XML, so you should be able to create a playlist in CatDV and then export a batch XML and have it transformed into their format.
Contact your CatDV Reseller once you have the system picked and they can quote you this dev either from Squarebox or NSA.
I’d be happy to a cursory check of the API’s on any systems you find. Like I said, I’ve been watching this space for years.

I know ToolsOnAir have done some work with CatDV.
I’ve wanted to build an integration for years myself and just haven’t found the right client or system.
Could you lay out a few of the features that you’d like to see in a system?
I know some people would like to update the list of assets from the DAM, for one. But what are some other features that would make this work?
Anyone else who has info pitch in, but also I’d love to hear feature requests or wishes on this thread. (Pierre, hope you don’t mind a mild hijack here. If so, I can start another thread.)

I’m fairly sure you’d need Calibrated Codecs to do this.
Check https://calibratedsoftware.com and grab a demo and test.

Also, do some reading on wrappers vs. codecs. MXF is a wrapper, not a codec and that confuses a lot of people.

Does that mean you worked it out? 😉
Hopefully. It can be confusing as you have to “save prefs” using the Tree to get it to stick in many cases. I also believe this may have changed over time, from version to version.
I sent an email to support this week about this very issue.
(There’s another blatant plug to everyone for keeping your Squarebox support up to date. Not only do you get all software updates but you also have access to their support team.)

That is weird. v9 should be able to do that though.
You could also use Media Folder to filter that will let you choose the drive/path. I know that that is available in v9, we’ve used it for years.

Sorry man, Rolf will have to help, I’m more Linux, OSX.
But know that you generally have to add the “catdv” app to your shell or call the explicit path. (Not sure how that works on Windows.)
Do not quote me on any of this, others on the NSA team handle the Win side. lol

Yes, those fields are dynamically populated in the client only, they are not saved to the server as they are only pertinent to the client you are on at the moment.
Example:
Hard Drive called “Drive_1” Path to a file called “file.mov” at /Volumes/Drive_1/folder/file.mov
CatDV Client 1 has the drive mounted
CatDV Client 2 does not have the drive mounted
Worker Node 3 has the drive mounted
Worker Node 4 does not have the drive mounted
CatDV Server is a database app so it does not mount media storage.
Is the asset “online”? It is to Client 1 but not to Client 2, so what does the CatDV Server say? It says “I cannot store “online/offline” as a field because that data is only relevant to the client at the time of the catalog or query result being open. The Server has no opinion or knowledge of the online status of a file to a client.
If you stored “online” as the status, that would be incorrect for Client 2 & Worker 4. If you stored “offline” it would be incorrect for Client 1 & Worker 3. So CatDV Pro, the client app or the Worker Node, determines the online/offline status when they open the catalog or query the server so that they never save incorrect data to the server. The only thing that is always correct, is the path to the data, which should never change. If you are searching for “is it on Drive_1?” CatDV Server, as a database can only tell you what the client or Worker last told it, it cannot check for files as the database app never mounts and accesses media files, only the Clients and Worker Nodes.
I hope this helps. This is not a “problem” to be fixed. It is a function of CatDV’s architecture and a really great and flexible one at that IMHO. If this isn’t clear, please contact Squarebox support or your reseller for more information on CatDV’s system architecture as this is far easier to demonstrate than type in text.
The function you are seeking is more a function of your data keeping practices and workflows than CatDV itself.
