If you’d like to hear some of our specific case studies, reach out, but I’ll post a couple anonymously here.
We have 3 post companies (1 small and 2 very large) using CatDV and our product Approval-Q to deliver billable services.
1 uses it for client review and approval and the other 2 use CatDV to catalog and archive assets (one to LTO via Cache-A and one to spinning disk) and then make the catalogs available via web so that the client can search for and request assets when needed. We are about to add a cart for the largest company so that clients can request transcoding operations right from the interface.
We are currently consulting with a service provider to a Fortune 500 company who intend to design a system using CatDV as the backend to collect, tag and share via web the marketing and communication assets that the company generates and don’t want to manage themselves.
I believe that these sorts of services will only continue to grow in popularity and CatDV can make the start up investment much smaller than traditional “big iron” DAMs.
I’m sure there are tons of stories that you’ll get on here as well. Let’s hear from some of you.

Just my 2 cents, but make sure it’s worth the time.
In the end, keeping three versions of something (the 20, 30 and 60 for instance) may not be a huge problem and you can clean it up over time, unless you have to deliver this all to a large archive or library where they won’t accept dupes.
I’d take it all in, clean it up as best you can, tag it and as people need things and search for them, they can flag the dupes and clean them up later.
Otherwise you may find yourself “cleaning” for a long time when you could be editing.
One of the best things about CatDV, and any MAM really, is that you can flag an asset to be looked at later so even if in the heat of a search you can’t stop to fix it, a “#review” or something that you can search for can be left behind. Then, when you have some time you can search on that metadata and clean up the messes people found.
It sounds like you have it pretty well sorted. My only thought is that the difference between 90% an 100% may be a lot of work.
Of course this has little to nothing to do with your original question. I’m gonna wrap it up.

I don’t have an answer, but I’ve seen tons of issues with 4444.
I’m assuming it’s a codec and that’s likely since there are tons of Apple updates out there.
Can you offer the OS your on etc? (Maybe also the ProRes codec version?)

Wait, are you not using CatDV to rename these files?
In the NAME (NM1) field, select and change the name, CatDV will ask you if you want to rename the media file and will do that and of course, update the path etc to match.
If you’re doing anything outside of the CatDV interface you will (of course) make media offline, just like any editing system or other media management software.

Do you have a server and worker node or just CatDV Pro standalone?
If you have a Worker Node, then there are all sorts of options. For this we’ll assume you don’t.
First, if possible, I’d rename and move the file before tagging. Order of operations can make all the difference in a DAM workflow.
If you have pro only, there are several ways:
Tag, rename, copy and then manually delete the old file. (I myself wouldn’t delete any til the whole project was cleaned up then do it drive by drive as I knew I was done with that media.) Scratch that, I’d never delete a file because drives are cheap. I’d store them for a few weeks or months after it was all clean and then maybe delete.
Export an XML side car (this seems weird but it’s a way to go.) CatDV will pick up the associated metadata from the XML when you import the file into the new catalog.
I’m sure there are other ways but these should start you there and I’m pretty “thought out” after a day of work. 😉

Scott, we’ve never deployed this in the real-world. The lag was simply too much to deal with.
That said, it’d likely be fine for using a web server over an intranet.
For remote deployments, using sync’d proxy volumes is far more reliable. We’ve done this with a variety of sync systems from simple and cheap to large, secure and fast.
For web proxy viewing, the Web Client or another complete web system is preferable to using the CatDV Pro Client with web proxy in my experience. If you want to use the Pro client, then sync the proxy to the user’s local LAN.

In Pegasus you send over an AAF from Media Composer.
That way you get clips with media attached instead of the mess you’ll see from a scan. (Orphans, audio only, renders, all of it come in from a scan.)
My personal opinion of a MAM/DAM workflow is that anytime you are “scanning” something, you’ll likely spend as much time cleaning up as getting good clips.
“Ingest” or checking something in to the system methodically is way better in the long run, IMHO.

In my opinion, scanning an Avid MediaFiles folder is a recipe for heartache on both sides.

Lee, no prob, I knew where you were headed but that comes up over and over on here so I thought I’d throw that in the thread to help sort it.
We tend to run the Worker Nodes fairly open and stage any deletions or moves as “copy and delete later” so that they move to a temp folder to be deleted at a later date in case of user errors. I’m always a bit wary of automations with “root” access.
