PS If this fifteen layer composition will always have content replaced in it maybe it would be more efficient to go FCP–>Motion–>FCP–but that assumes that there are filters and behaviors to match your FCP’s. Well, no, it would be a combination of FCP filters (as long as there are no keyframes in your FCP filters) and Motion behaviors and effects.

Paste Attributes>Content if you just want to replace the footage without changing filters, keyframes, etc.

Technique: Using Paste Attributes

Going the other way copying the filters and keyframes in 4.5 had issues according to this post phorum – The Bug Report – Paste Attributes: No Mo’ Keyframes

I would notice that when I did a Paste Attributes>Content the keyframes would slide around. I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to track down the issue. It probably has to do with the fact that the new content wasn’t the identical length as the raw clips durations in the bins even though in the sequence their durations was identical.

Someone will enlighten us…

Use CMX 3600 and make sure your reel names are only 8 characters. The EDL will shorten long reel names to something it can use which may or may not resemble your original reel name. EDL is only good for one track of video and 2, 4 and 8 tracks of audio.

Also broken TC on DV tapes will give you headaches.

EDL are not a good way to archive projects. They are only good for A-roll and B-roll sequences.

Now what really makes this cool, is with the .PDF open in Adobe Acrobat Reader you can do a word search and it takes you right to the key.

Try using “snapping” and it takes you to one key. Try “mark” and it can take you to all occurances of “mark” and “marker”.

I know the jury might be still in session the firewire direct recorders, but I sounds like a more viable option.

Firewire harddrives like Focus– https://www.focusinfo.com/ –have only one function, record DV video without a lot background system processes going on. Even though the video is considered one stream it records it to manageable chunks on their harddrive.

Has anyone used one of these firewire direct recorders to record and hour or more of video live with no stopping? I’m glad this question came up.
