The solution was simple – downgraded to MC 6.5 and all the channel selections were there.
Didn’t get enough feedback from any forum inquiries to fix the problem on MC 8.0 Windows.

Hmm, my media (since there is a great deal of it) is linked through AMA. I’ll try and do a few transcodes to MXF and see if the columns show up then.
I found that when using Resolve 12 to transcode MTS L/R footage, Avid 8 would not recognize either of the MXF formats but did recognize through AMA the Quicktime DNx transcodes. So I used the QT/MOV flavor and I’m leery of having to do MXF transcodes of all of that footage – several TB’s worth.
Like I mentioned in original post, I’m a totally noob with Avid so I’m sure I just making Noob mistakes here.

Yes, I tried naming custom columns and they do appear, however they are do not then have the same presets associated with them that S3D columns have like Left Eye, Right Eye, etc.
I’m thinking perhaps Avid has given up on stereographic with it’s latest versions and I will have to revert to an earlier Avid version like 6.5 to get these features working.
I hope that’s not the case and that I’ve just missed a settings switch.

Thanks Michael for your informational input. As you can tell I am an AMC noobie and although I try very hard to RTFM as much as possible, sometimes things are fuzzy in the show notes.
It’s taking quite a long time to transcode all of the MTS files I have to do at DNxHD 175 but I’m doing them in big batches and I have several days to get it done. I’m doing it directly into MC to avoid MetaFuze and then I have to do the whole 3D Group thing, but your PDF explains that pretty well.

SOLVED / I think In the bin(s) the files are listed with proper names. When I look inside the Avid MediaFiles folder I see them split up and named with extra characters. I’ll leave it at that and hope that MC doesn’t mess with the filenames much more.

Yes, I found that PDF and will use it now.
As far as output goes, at least broadcast but the footage has been large screen projected and it looks very good so I’m not ruling out theatrical at this stage. Perhaps 220 or better would be the way to go. Uncompressed is way too data intensive of course.

Thanks Michael, I didn’t see that documentation anywhere but it’s great info. What level of DNxHD would you recommend for 8-bit MTS files to transcode to? I won’t be going back to the MTS files again for color or final output.

Thanks again Tim. That makes things much clearer. One of the tools I would like to have going as an on-set DIT is the automatic incremental backup of footage as it is offloaded from the camera cards to a Raid 5 drive and then from the Raid 5 to LTO. If I can set this to happen automatically and have it warn me when it’s time to switch out a full tape to continue the copy process – that would all work for me. This is what I meant by “span” and “increment”.
Of course the footage is being updated with new offloads throughout the day, so do the newer offloads need to be in a new folder to be watched, or does BRU detect uncopied files and add them to the auto increment?
I don’t think you are being a shill for the software, merely explaining to a novice the details of it’s capabilities.
Oh, and only having to use the demo version for a restore or recovery is sweet!

Also, scanning your website’s FAQ I don’t see any mention of spanning LTO tapes or incremental backup.
If I have a Raid 5 filled with footage that is larger than my LTO tape capacity, can I automatically span and incrementally backup during the filming day? It seems I will have to compute the exact amount of data to copy to a tape each time manually. Not so?
