Thanks Steve. But if I understand you correctly, I am going to need all 3 programs? Oops…just blown the budget (again). It seems awfully convoluted to me…having to use three different programs to achieve my result.
By the way, can the “Themes” offeresd in Cinescape be imported into Acid and used there without the Cinescope program?
…or am I missing something here?

Thanks for your reply. I did see the Gearshift trial software on the Pro 8 disk, but didn’t realise that benifit. Thanks. You talk in terms of HDV – what about material originated on the EX1 (ie. MPEG 2 Long GOP)? Would this be handled with Gearshift in the same way?

I get it now. The device has to be plugged in to have the option available…Duh!
If the CPU slows me up with HDV, I guess it’s going to be even more of a problem with the HD from an EX1. Hmmmm. I just had a thought. What if I first capture while downconverting to DV – complete the edit, and then re-digitize at full HD. Would this be possible?
As far as the handles were converned, I was interested in limiting the amounts of video on my system by performing the basic shot selection during capture from the production notes provided. It’s not a train smash…just wondered if I was missing something.
I did the >Remove from project. Delete files> thing, but the files were still on my hard drive. Will now completely remove them from Explorer. Thanks.
It would be nice to have motion tracking in Vegas…perhaps in a later version?

The “field” I talk about will be (unfortunately) one of the more unforgiving environments for electronics – the ocean. I have a small boat and will be shorthanded on (video) crew. I can produce enough power to maintain all systems indefinitely, but have to be careful. My experience with the EX1 is nil. My biggest plus card is that I am funding the series myself and therefore control the schedule. I already have two backup computers. Can’t aford a backup camera. But I have serious protection for the camera.

Yeah, heat is a problem anyway in the tropics, so it won’t be anywhere near my lap I can asure you!
Thanks for the assurance that RAID 0 will be okay. I had a RAID system on my old DPS and was very happy with it, and like you it was a surprise to find it in a laptop…along with a really fast processor. I’ve been in this business for longer than I like to admit and have seen the evolution of video editing all the way from 2″ tape quad machines. Yikes! It’s just mind blowing what one can achieve these days…with a laptop for *** sake!

I agree Steve: Content is what it’s all about. I just want to make sure that I can edit while on location and as I’m going to be away from civilisation for extended periods, I need that system to be rock solid. I have had a comment that I should really look at having my editing program on a seperate drive to my media content. This would preclude a RAID format. But then would the system be fast enough for real time playback?
So many questions…so little knowledge! Sigh…
