March 5, 2013 at 7:26 pm in reply to: Timecode off between Quicktime file and PP

Has this timecode issue been fixed?
I am having same problems. PP timecode does not match what is in the quicktime. NDF or DF does not matter. If the quicktime is DF PP sees it as DF, same with NDF. I have files that have been captured and then exported with AVID. Every other app sees the timecode correctly except PP. Why? So very frustrating.
I have found that if I render files from Resolve then, and only then do the timecodes match.
    Has anyone found a solution?

Agreed that the UVW’s are/were pretty crappy, but I am also curious if there is a way, even taking the top off to adjust the output levels of the 1800/1600 series VTR’s? I had to drag out an old deck from the storage room and have noticed that the levels coming out of the deck are too hot, channel 1 is clipping the input of my mixer, and it’s trimmed all the way down.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks

July 8, 2011 at 7:53 am in reply to: single connection to server

    Hi Bob,

I finally got my hands on that 10Gbit smalltree cx4 card for the Mac and now have it hooked up to
    the HP 2900 10Gbit CX4 port.

I can access my iscsi drives and have noticed performance increase from approx 120MB/sec (single 1Gbit ethernet) to approx. 300MB/sec read/write when performing the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test.

Yet if I run jperf using a single connection from the client side I can get closer to 600MB/sec. with my TCP window size set to 512kbits on both sides. If i increase the number of connections to 5 or over i can get it to top out at around 700MB/sec.

I thought that this decrease in speed would be a drive array speed issue, but If i benchmark my drive array locally I can get over 700MB/sec average read speeds with it bursting to over 900MB/sec.

I have enabled jumbo frames to the maximum frame size in the os x network setup for the 10G adaptor as well as on the intel card in the windows server as well as enabling Jumbo frames in the switch.

I have tested with flow control off and on. I get better speeds with it on.

I have played around with some tcp/ip settings tx/rx buffer as well as increasing the tcp max frame size on the windows server as well as adjusting tcp send and receive size in osx and can’t seem to get it any faster.

Do you have any thoughts on how to increase this speed?
    Thanks

alas, I have been slammed with editing tasks which is my real day job, which is now my day and night job.
So my time for SAN fun is zilch.

Also my client has informed me they are now putting their cash into development instead of a SAN at the moment.
But hopefully the development will pay off and a series will follow, and then a SAN. I will be calling when this happens, or when I can come up for air!

I haven’t even had time to check the cow in the past few weeks.

    thanks for everyones input.

I would like to know if there is a way to get embedded timecode out the sdi port with a decklink extreme hd 3?
I also need this for my scope.

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for all the great info, nice list of clients too!

and Yes! the price is appealing for 16TB, because i’m sure 8TB will not be sufficient… but I also need to consider that there are a couple of AVID’s and a couple of FCP systems that will need to be on this system.

Hi Caspian, yes we have talked in the past, but recently have been chatting with Keith at SNS. I am a big fan of EVO, but I am curious what others are using these days.
As for codecs FCP and AVID for broadcast, so DNX – mostly 145/220 and PRORES, but of course some headroom would be nice for future possibilities.
    cheers!

I will report what I find, but Bob, i’m curious what you would do with 20k for 4 editors?
