Are you running 7 or X? I think I was running FCP 5 back then.
Since I’ve upgraded, I haven’t had the issue.
If it’s a RAM issue, try restarting your system.

After further investigation, it turns out that the video was running about 25% faster than the audio as if it was recorded at 24fps and playing back at 30fps.

Shane, you’re half way there. The key to getting depth of field with the HVX-200 as well as most cameras in its class is to also increase the distance between the camera & the subject.
Lighting can help a lot as well. If you light your subject and allow the background lighting to fall off a bit, that will help separate your subject from the background.
As Steve said, opening up your iris and zooming in on your subject will also help increase DOF.
You may also want to consider looking at the Red Rock Micro. This will give your camera the ability to use interchangeable lenses.

It just may be time to get a new system. It’s been a good back-up unit for FCP 5. Except for the speed issue and the fact that it can’t run Motion and other Studio2 programs, it’s working fine.

The export may be reformatting the video to 29.97fps, which is why it takes so long.
But, if I understand your question, you’re exporting the file to use, unedited, in a motion menu. If this is the case, and you’re using DVD SP, you can avoid this step all together.
After exporting your MPG2 file and importing your assets into DVD SP, you can just drop your assest into your menu. You can adjust the starting point, the duration of the clip in the Menu Inspector.
