About your render on export, have you read this post?
https://blogs.adobe.com/VideoRoad/2011/08/a-prores-workflow-end-to-end.html
Karl talks about making it all pro res. So when you render an effect to see if it works, it is rendering to pro res. Then, at the final output, you can check the box that says “use renders in final output” He also has a follow up article on advance settings.
I’ve noticed it really speeds up final output. Learning about this set up has made pp6 awesome for me. Also the dynamic linking actually works this time. So going to aftereffects and back is easy. I’m sure if your windows you could just pick the codec of your choice as well. Like avid dnx.

July 11, 2012 at 6:37 pm in reply to: Anyone have personal experience with adding “Drop Coverage” to there MBPr?Apple care does not cover drop or accidental damage on laptops. I was wondering if anyone has bought an insurance or extended care for a laptop that covers accidental damage. I want to be able to carry around my macbook, with out a huge worry about breaking it. (I’ve never broken a laptop before, but with the repair rate so low on the macbook retina, I want it covered.)

June 19, 2012 at 3:46 pm in reply to: MacBook Pro Retina vs. MacBook Pro non RetinaThanks Dave, let me know.
If you have some problems here are what the dev said at autodesk,
“Here’s something that you could try. Not saying it will work, but it might:
Go in System Preferences > Energy Saver and disable “Automatic Graphics Switching” at the top.
Please note that MAC OS Lion 10.7.4 and the MacBook Pro Retina line has not been certified by our team yet so it is not currently in in the “supported configuration’ list. There’s still a possibility thatthe trial will launch anyway, but the configuration is not certified yet.”if that doesn’t work, if you have a external monitor, try launching smoke in “lid closed” mode. (where you have the lid closed on the macbook pro, and are just using the external monitor)
I want to buy one bad, but I want to learn the new smoke more.
Thanks again Dave,
Brooks

June 16, 2012 at 4:20 am in reply to: MacBook Pro Retina vs. MacBook Pro non RetinaHey DaVe,
Sorry to bombard you with a question about your shinny new MacBook. But I have to know. Does the retina MacBook run the mercury engine in adobe premiere pro? (so when you start a new premiere project, does it give you the option to choose “mercury playback engine” in stead of a greed out “CPU playback” only)If the answer is yes, did you intall the Cuda drivers?
Thanks,

July 4, 2011 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Warning: Final Cut Pro X: “Open in Timeline” edits cause permanent change to source mediaWell it just happend to me, I was trying to find the original clip of a key word clip, and did the open clip in timeline. Then blam, I lost the original clip, and all the key words I had on the clip. The clip was 22 mins, and I had just logged over 50 different keywords. I can’t figure out how to fix it, and I think it might be a bug. Becasue now the clip that has the all the keywords assigned to it, has the compound icon. Plus, when I go to play back the clip, it is all messed up, missing audio, and way shorter (14seconds, instead of 22mins) I think it happens when you open a keyworded clip in timeline. But I can’t repeat the process.
I tried importing it again, but that didn’t fix the problem
Apple, I’m really glad you got rid of reconnecting media, it’s such a life saver, NOT!!!let me mention that this is the second time around, the first time I tried this project, it froze, and quit. then when I tried to open the project again all my media was missing. I had to delete the project and start over.
if I can lose all my keywords (bins) with no way to fix it just like that, this program has not professional longevity.
