What Easy Setup do you choose? I only have the two options of HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 or HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30.

That’s what I thought. I’ll check with Sonnet on RAID protection. I have the Sonnet Tempo-X eSATA 8 card.

Don’t know what caused it. I copied and paste the media from my corrupted timeline into a new timeline and everything was great.

Follow up on drives as I’m close to upgrading to producing more HD projects. I currently have a 1TB SATA drive array. I realize money plays a factor, but what drive arrays do you recommend?
70% of our projects are done in 8bit uncompressed
30% of our projects are done in DVCProHD 1080i60 or 720Obviously, the later is painstakingly slow as we still just have a G5 Dual 2.7

Wow. That was intense. Got it to record, although, I found that I do have to select the play now msg in PRINT TO TAPE before the XL H1 will see the video signal. Once FCP starts to play it sees it and records fine.
BTW – I’m using FCP 5.1.4. Is this issue resolved in FCP Studio 2 (vs6)?

Sorry forgot the external video
I see four flavors of HDV offered for View/Playback, but they are all gray and not selectable. Of course, I can choose none or Desktop. It doesn’t matter how many times I select refresh devices, it still won’t allow me to choose the HDV output. Keep in mind that I can digitize from the XL H1 without any issues. -
I tried using the default Easy Setup for HDV 1080i 60. Here’s the settings:
Sequence – HDV 1080i60
Capture – HDV
Device Control – Sony HDV Firewire
Playback Output Video – None
Edit to Tape/PTV Output Video – HDV (1440×1090) 60i
Edit to Tape/PTV OUTput Audio – HDVThe XL H1 is set to
AV to DV —OFF
HD DOWN-CONV—OFF -
Figured I’d post my own experience.
Easy Worship – simple and limited, but great execution and very easy for volunteers to master
Media Shout – feature rich and powerful, especially for multimedia presentations, but very high learning curve.
Pro Presenter – well, if you have a church that is wise enough to invest in Mac, then yeah it’s the way to go.

As a general rule of thumb, there is always some variance in the head alignment from camera to camera and deck to deck. High-end decks are able to adjust for this – slightly. I have issues between a XL1 and a GL1, where anything shot on either camera does not always play back well on other. You could try making a sub-master of your original tape from your XL1 to the DSR-11. One would think that the new sub-master recorded via the DSR-11 should play fine on your client’s DSR-11.

I’m totally blown away. Has anyone else been experiencing this?“Brian…I’ve has similar problems. Small vertical and horizontal lines are “aliased”. I thought it was a skin detail also.
Heres what I’ve found…and anyone can chime in…but this is from Canon directly.
I spoke with one of the reps about this same problem.
1. It only occurs in SD.
2. Vertical and Horizontal lines are aliased.
3. Video just looks….well “bad”.Canon basically told me the chips are designed as 16×9 chips..and HD. He also agreed that this is a bit of an issue because the imaging chips must “res-down” to SD and there is probably too much info there for SD to handle. Therefore the aliasing occuring with small lines.
The camera was really made as a HD camera…and SD is just a “courtesy”.
He suggested trying shooting the footage in 16×9 mode in SD…then centerpunching the footage in post. I haven’t tried this…but his idea was that at least the native 16×9 chips would be giving full information and that might help.
Again…this is my 2 cents worth. I have NEVER shot any SD with this camera after this problem…I couldn’t beat it.
HD…on the otherhand doesn’t get any better unless you shooting with a Cine Alta. 60i or 24f…the image is fabulous.”
