What is the low freq. roll off filter set to?
Its awhile since I’ve used a set of G3’s but there may be a roll off in the advanced section of the menu .
Edit; Just checked a set and NO they don’t have a roll off….. sorry.
My thought is it maybe low frequency rumble from room air conditioning or similar.

If my memory is correct the plug on TX unit from sennheiser is a higher RF output than the belt packs, and if thats the case it would it would chew batteries quicker. Also generating phantom power from a couple of AA’s would be more energy zapping than a 3v bias voltage for a Lav mic.
Standard carbon AA batteries are useless, Alkaline are the best for audio gear, Lithium batteries last longer but when they crash they go from a full charge on the battery indicator to dead flat in just seconds….. -
Do you actually ‘MIX’ on headphones or do you just record material?
I find it interesting about headphones and the use there of, most time you use them to monitor location sound and what to basically hear just a few things like is the mic on or off direction, bottom end rumble and if you have RF or noise problems.
If you are using H/Phones to monitor problems then almost ANY sort can be used (including the ones they give out on plane flight) Ideally ones that isolate the external sound would be better.But if you are actually ‘MIXING’ final product material on headphones (any sort any model)…….Good luck you are going to need it.

Are you using Alkaline batteries?
Are you using phantom power?
If you are using phantom power what sort of mics are you powering?
Running phantom power into a radio mic receiver will eat up batteries rapidly as well as possibly doing some damage to the receiver.
Have you considered using an external battery pack rather than being tethered to the mains power? -

I’ve got a job in a couple of weeks time for an international broadcaster where tracks 1/2 is a stereo mix 3 is mono fx and 4 is ISO commentary.Why not contact them and get a better discription on what they actually need & want.

Its often thought that DSLR is a lower cost route but by the time you add all the tricks to make it a reasonable setup a dedicated Video camera comes out in front.
Also the post production of a video camera with embedded audio is SO much simpler than a split system.

Any small hand held recorders running on just a few AA batteries will use them up quickly trying to generate 48v phantom power…..
Getting 48v from 3 -6v chews up battery life quickly.As a suggestion get mics that don’t need phantom powering either Dynamic or self powered / internal batteries.
Be mindful that the Rode NTG2 which my seem ideal at a first glance can be VERY problematic with hand held recorders because of its VERY low audio output level, which means you need to increase the gain in the pocket recorder often bringing up lots of hissss. -
Let me put this to you, the system you have quoted should be regarded as low- medium level system.
Just a couple of questions why go for a H4n, yes they were the first of its type around and has changed low end production in many ways, but it came out in 2009 and in technology years thats a LONG time ago, there are many other recorders around that may suit your needs better and have better battery life (one thing the H4n is poor battery life when running phantom powered mics).
Perhaps think about it another way… would you be rushing out to buy a PC to do your video productions if it was running Windows Vista or Windows 7? And thats the same era as the H4n.
