    Another option may be to export your scene from C4D as an obj and bring it in to syntheyes. Then you can scale your scene in syntheyes to fit. If your scene in C4D is large you could just export out certain objects.

    Look for ngambles post. Worked great. I think I’ve even seen this post on Creative Cow somewhere. You may need to move your camera animation over a frame or 2 to line up with the footage but it works.

  • Glad I could help. The only other thing I think you need to do is, in the render settings go to output and select all frames under frame range. Should be good to go. Let me know if that works.

    Stephen,
    So after looking at your scene it looks like you’ve done the right things in Boujou. From my understanding of your shot it should be a moving camera in a static scene. the car in a sense is like a dolly moving through the street. Also your setup in cinema 4d should match the focal length and film back width of Boujou. Otherwise things won’t match up. Had the same problem some time ago bringing Syntheyes tracking info into C4D. If the animation of the camera starts on the right frame as your footage than you should be all set provided you actually have a good track. Let me know if you can’t get it worked out. Maybe you can post the file somewhere so I can take a look. Easier to get it figured out to see exactly the problem is.

  • Hey Andrew,
    So I took a look and didn’t have a problem. The quicktime file of the sphere moving that you rendered out did not have an alpha channel. Well it did but it was a solid color. What I noticed was when you go to the render settings in cinema 4d you need to set the save settings there. The line just above where you change the settings to animation and quicktime, the file line, there is a button that has “…” . Click that save your path with file name and then hit render. There are no more steps after that. I also noticed you were hitting the preview render and not render I don’t know if that was intended. But that will not give you the right result. Anyway i hope that helps if it’s still not working for you let me know.

  • It sounds like you have it right the only thing is when you “save as” it should not be tiff it should just be a quicktime movie with the .mov extension.

  • didn’t realize you were using a quicktime container for the footage. I was using an image sequence. In cinema export out as a quictime. under options,in the render settings in cinema, switch to animation codec and in the same window change compressor to millions+. click the alpha channel. Render that out and when you bring that into AE interpret footage with an alpha. That should work.

    Couple of things to check, did you put the object in the correct location in 3d space? is the camera properly aligned with the footage (starting on the same frame)? did the camera information come over to C4D properly (do you have the same focal length and film back as Boujou)? Those are few common things if I actually could see your setup I could help you more.

  • Hey Andrew,
    I just did a quick test to see if I ran into the same problem. I did a basic sphere with animation and textured it. Exported it out as a tif sequence with the alpha box checked in the render. Opened up AE and the background was black but as soon as I put a background underneath it all was good. The alpha gets premultiplied automatically. It sounds like you did all the right steps, did you try compositing it in AE?
