Would you recommend that setting over CineForm?

Found the P2 setting and was able to run the encode, but it seems that it’ll bring the video down to 720p. Not ideal 🙂 I’ll keep looking for options outside of giving in and just getting a Mac for the ProRes.

Running a 2.8 quad core, 8GB RAM, 4850 series video card. I’ve not seen too much lag, but I can see it becoming a problem fast.

I’ve not tried uncompressed AVI, but I can give that a shot. Will that edit easier? And if I do switch over to uncompressed AVI, which preset would I be using in premiere?

I could convert to dvcpro HD, but I can’t seem to find a video converter that can do it. Media Encoder doesn’t offer it.

Okay, that fixed the problem. I’m going to go ahead and repost the problem and the solution so people know:

IF you are using a Radeon HD4800 series card, and are experiencing LAG issues with Premiere Pro in Windows 7, the solution is to remove all previous video drivers that windows felt it needed to install, and install the 9.8 release of drivers for 64 bit Windows Vista. This solves the problem. Drivers can be found at the link above.

Also, I went to AMD website to search for the old driver you were talking about. The driver that you suggested (by its release date) is actual 9.8…

    Thoughts?

Thanks! I will give this a try over lunch (2 hours) and respond after that. Anything I need to know about removing all the previous drivers?

The AMD site only offers the most up to date drivers. Do you know where I might come across that older one?

I’m experiencing this very same problem, with no solution found yet. I’m running CS4 on a Windows 7 Premium, quad core 2.83, 8 GB Ram, and it’s all on 7200 RPM HDs, so it’s not the hard drive speed that’s the problem. I have a HD4850 video card; in the same family as the original post. Perhaps there’s a problem with that series of cards? Please anyone, help 🙂

  • This unfortunately did not solve the problem. It must be some problem with Premiere Pro and Windows 7. Nothing changed, hardware or driver wise between my upgrade, and I did not experience this problem when working with Vista.

Something I left out: If I undock the preview window and make it full screen on the second monitor, it lags out. If I make it very, very small, the video runs fine. Leads me to believe that it’s not using the GPU to process the video. I can’t imagine why that would be the case though.

Playing the AVCHD files just off the desktop in media player classic have no problems at all. It’s only within Adobe Premiere. Thoughts?

  • Do I simply go to the folder in Windows and delete the driver folder and everything in it, or is there a process for removing the actual driver?
