Rick thanks for taking the time to research and help.

I would be interested in learning how to transcode/convert my files in Vegas if possible. I am not so worried about space because after I make my final DVD I plan on that being my copy of the footage. I would then erase any video footage from the hard drive.

I have a hard drive here now that I am going to look into making a secondary internal drive.

No my camera is the entry level Sony DCR-DVD108 Handycam, not a HD camera.

From everything I am reading or starting to find out it seems I am going to have little success editing once done with a disc and/or discs.

I tried that originally and have the same results as copying it to my hard drive.

    Hmmm…..

I have a hard drive from the computer I just uprgraded from I could try and install onto my new computer.

Would there be any minimum specs that the secondary hard drive would need to meet?

Hey Rick, No offense taken I know somethings are easily overlooked, or done incorrectly, so I definitely don’t mind checking the basics.

First the files I am trying to import into Vegas are .vod files from the DVD I originally recorded onto.

As far as putting media on a seperate drive than the operating system, I am not sure I understand or are 100% clear on what you mean. I have my OS, (Windows Vista) on the C: drive. I copied my video from the camcorder DVD into a folder named “Video” on my C: drive.

Are you saying that I need a seperate hard drive that in theory has nothing but video footage stored on it?

    thanks Rick,

Yes I put it on my hard drive and imported in to Vegas. It was one file at just over 3 minutes. I have tried other files from different discs and run into the same problem.

Thanks though, one more check I can cross off.

Thanks, I tried preview under each setting and I still continue to have problems with it being “Choppy”. It seems like it gets worse as more footage is added to the timeline.

So you know there is a total of 3 minutes and 44 seconds of footage I have on the timeline so it is nothing ridiculous.

Would I not have this problem if I were using the previous version of Vegas that does not support HD capability? Since my camera is DVD based I am not editing HD footage anyways, I guess what I am getting at is this software overkill for me and my computer?

I also tried to adjust the “dynamic ram” under tools but I haven’t had much luck with this either.

    Thanks.
