“Shoot DVCPRO 50 and import that into a DVCPRO 50 timeline and edit.”

well, I got that part right at least.

[brianluce] “Export you finished product back to p2, stick the p2 back in the camera then run through your analog outs to a rented Beta/digibeta deck. ”
What? What kind of workflow is that? Where is the deck control? Where is the Component signal? SDI? Where is the timecode?
——————————————–I have no idea. that’s what the guy at dvxuser said to do. what the hell do i know. i’m a producer.

As I understand it, you should shoot in dvcpro50 as this, according to barry green’s test footage, provides the best SD image–better than downconverted HD. Export you finished product back to p2, stick the p2 back in the camera then run through your analog outs to a rented Beta/digibeta deck.
i think the problem with this however is your content will be limited by the capacity of the p2 card. 8 gigs. Apparently it’s not possible to reload additional p2 footage to the same beta/digibeta tape seamlessly. I don’t understand why you can’t but apparently that’s the way it is.

okay redindian, same question then, is dvcpro50 in the hvx true 4:2:2? or faux?
-
If the HVX won’t do true 4.2.2 in HD mode, how about in dvcpro50 mode? is that true 4.2.2?

i’m planning on originating in dv50 and distributing finished shows in betacam sp. what type of workflow are you using?

……………………..I went ’round and ’round on this in the broadcast forum. basically what i got out of it was that beta sp is an analog format so you can use stuff like 4.2.2 as a performance figure. then adam wilt said if one HAD to ascribe a sampling ratio to beta sp it’d be 3.1.1.

February 9, 2006 at 6:13 am in reply to: Anyone else confused or dissapointed with new HVX200?how old is the d30 technology? we have a d50 betacam that’s a few years old and it makes our dvx100 look absolutely sick by comparison. if i were to find out that the hxv in dvcpro50 mode can match up well with our d50 betacam i’d be totally stoked.

Shoot everything on DVCPRO50 codec. This will give you 4:2:2 quality and you will get a lot of space of the P2 Cards. It will also allow you to take advantage shooting “speed between 4-60 fps”.

i think actually the variable frame rate is only in 720p.
also, barry green did some tests and it looks like the dv50 is better than downconverted hd. assuming of coure your final output is SD.
