In the canvas or in the viewer? In the canvas I just zoom out like in AE. In the viewer, well, yeah, you shouldn’t have to set keyframes in the viewer. The whole thing is just strange and I’m not sure anyone at Apple knows how to fix it, since the viewer and keyframe interface has not changed one single bit since version 1.0. Nada.

It’s not just keyframed shadows. When nesting a clip the other day and then adding a drop shadow to the nest it quivered. It had a couple white lines at the edge at top and bottom, and adding the drop shadow made them quiver. Turn off the drop shadow, no quiver. It’s happened this way for years. Can’t figure out just what circumstance makes it happen, but with alpha channel graphics, they’ve always been softer when you nest them and add a shadow. There’s just something wrong with the underlying code.
In your instance you might just use your graphic to matte a slug on lower tracks. Then blur the slug and simply keyframe it’s motion as the drop shadow. That’s what I had to do in the above example. A little more work, but gets the job done. I’ve given up on Apple fixing most bugs like this. Learn the workaround and move on is about all you can do.

Why are you using the matrox rt mac? FCP natively can do more in RT than the RTMac.

Is it just doing phase cancellation? That was the old school way. Record some room tone, then reverse the phase of it and mix with the recorded audio. If they’re close enough should cancel out the noise. Just like noise cancellation headphones.

The problem you mention wasn’t so much a bug as it was the way things worked before version 4 or 4.5. It was fixed years ago in any case unless it somehow reaappeared for an incremental update. But yeah, in the past you couldn’t “media manage” any media that was offline. So if you edited, deleted your media in prep for an online, then tried to “decompose” then you were in trouble.
But you should be able to simply select the sequence in the bin and media manage that. Tell it to make a new project of offline clips deleting the unused media, etc. The media manager dialog box is ingeniously designed imho. The description at the top changes as you choose options and the options are laid out in a way that makes perfect sense to me at least. Now if it was just reliable. But I question some of the problems people have. With FCPs ability to open multiple projects at once and intermix the media, it becomes a complex task for the media manager than perhaps Avid. Media Manager is actually more akin to “Consolidate” in many ways. One nifty trick in FCP (although kinda dangerous if your project isn’t complete and on tape) is to consolidate the ACTUAL media. Unlike Avid, FCP has the ablity to trim the actual media on the drives instead of consolidating to another. So if yoiu edited 2 hours of full rez footage into 10 minutes, you have the ability to trim the media in place on the drive. Very cool if your project is finished and you’d like to make room for the next project. Just make a duplicate of the sequence first.
And if you’re from an Avid bgrnd like I was, you’ll thik media manager is nuts for creating a new project when you media manage. First thing I do with that new project is move all the bins and sequences into a bin in the current project. I move the media too on the drive. Then delete all occurences of the idiotic project that mm creates. I don’t need to keep up with 2 projects!
Anyway, you’re either just missing something in the mm interface or there’s a legit bug again.

I think you’re reading the wrong thread. He asked why the position (center) parameter wasn’t available in the timeline clip keyframes bar. That’s all. It’s a good question as they aren’t available. Yoiu can adjust (and create with pen tool) other attributes of the motion tab but not position. Clip keyframes is nice, but it needs to be better. I suggest to Apple and FCP that all keyframes should be created and adjusted in a expandable area of the clip or layer ala after effets. You could leave the keyframes viewable and adjustable for all clips at all times. No more of this double click into the viewer nonsense. The timeline is where all the work should occur. Not the viewer.

There is no such thing as a drop or non-drop frame capture preset. It simply reads the timecode and captures whatever you shot.

I thought this was a good question, but I don’t understand the point of your answer. Perhaps you didn’t understand the question. You can also do the same with cropping and scaling, but those clip keyframes are available in the timeline. Apparently the center attribute is not available as a clip keyfaming option.

There is no background in the title tool. You would place the background of your choice into the timeline. Create a matte or custom gradient and put it on a layer below your title.

I finally sent off for my UB discs. Have some P2 stuff coming in and apparently 5.0.x is a wee buggy for P2. Still a little unhappy about mailing the discs and $49. Even worse, a trip to the post office!
