  • Still getting crashes too? I’ve tried everything. I’ve run with one screen on a new stock install of FCPX with a new user setup and fresh prefs and no keyboard shortcuts or anything. There aren’t that many people out there having the issue, but from here, BMD’s own forum, and FCP.co I’ve found around 10. One thread said to just delete the FCPxCMIOdecklink plugin that is listed in the crash report. And I did. Everything ran just like it did before. Didn’t seem to need what I deleted. But it still crashed and still listed that plugin as the culprit. I’ve got BMD’s ear but they’ve just marked it as a bug and said they can’t repeat it.

Don’t forget in all cases to keep playback set to “better performance.” Much of the time that is enough to playback 4k in a 1080p timeline. It softens the image a bit during playback, but stays sharp when paused. Also, turn off those annoying drop framed warnings. Honestly, why do I care if I’m dropping a frame here or there? This is a bit of a throwback to outputting to tape. It’s not going to drop frames on my export file, so I leave it off. If it’s so bad that I can see it dropping frames, I really don’t need a computer to tell me.

So, when you reveal in browser, suddenly FCP X is creating a version two? I think know what is happening there. You’re editing in a snapshot. When you create a snapshot, the compounds don’t exist anywhere until you reveal them in the browser. Then they suddenly appear. I’m sure they DO exist, but they’re just hidden away because in reality, you shouldn’t be editing a snapshot and these compounds really don’t need to be visible. But if you do decided to edit a snapshot, then they appear when you reveal in browser. If they weren’t hidden, your browser would be cluttered with all the compounds from every snapshot you’ve created. And for me, at the end of a job might be 10 or so for each project in the library for said job. Snapshots are locking an edit as is as an emergency fallback.

But alas I have no idea how this would have anything to do with 6khz audio. Where are you seeing it’s 6 kHz?

  • Maybe something from the mLUT packs at motionvfx? https://www.motionvfx.com/mplugs-68.html

They even have a setting called “fight gang.”

I don’t have it so can’t vouch for it. But I have quite a few of their plugs and never a disappointment.

If you opt v paste you can just copy from primary and it’ll paste as connected. Skipping a few steps.

Are you talking render or playback during creation? Rendering can be a mixed bag depending on what you’re doing as each as their strengths. But aren’t many rendering their 2015CC projects with 2014 since 2015 isn’t even multi processor aware? I’m working with a template that is insanely huge with multiple puppet tool characters and tons of animated shapes and expressions. 2015 just couldn’t even deal with it. I’m having to use 2014.

iMovie solves ducking very simply. With a checkbox and a slider. Just apply it to any clip (like VO or SOT) and it will “lower other clips volume” by that amount. Pretty slick. And sad that such a thing isn’t in X. And then a checkbox to “turn ducking into keyframes” or something.

I think they used to call it ducking but probably nobody knew what that ways. So no it literally says “lower other clips volume.” But if you look at the undo cache, it’ll say undo ducking.

You’re just referring to sending it a sequence of clips right? Because once you have a sequence of clips as a group, it acts much more like an NLE than AE. Both in functionality and performance. I’d love it in AutoMatic Duck got something together. Still the only way I know of to get a sequence over to Motion from X is via XtoCC and a copy of FCP 7 to send that resulting sequence to Motion. Which results in a Motion 4 project that can be opened in Motion 5 instead. But it’s super quick and doable. Even 7 is on another machine it can be done over ethernet. Seems like someone should be able to duplicate whatever it is that FCP 7 is doing to send that data to a Motion 4 file. That’d be worth something!

I’ve been having to dig back into AE the last few weeks and it’s tough to go back to AE and deal with the performance hit once you’ve gotten used to Motion. In Motion I only miss a few things like the render que, selective motion blur, and being able to put all my comps in one big project. I also miss true nested comps instead of just groups help to clean up a complex project. That said, I’d also like a twirl down group option in AE. In motion I enjoy the 3D text, reflections, particles, replicators, text engine, publishing, rigging, behaviors, clones and drop zones over AE’s counterparts (where applicable).

Always good to have a harding to purse.
