A standard miniDP to DVI/HDMI/MDP, etc) cable won’t work. The monitors have to be “thunderbolt aware.” However, if you run first to a device like a raid or a drive that has thunderbolt loop through, it somehow adds back in the DVI aware signal or something. It’s all quite ridiculous. But I tried exactly what you did last night. Just used a TB3 (usbc) to TB2 Apple adapter to hook up a Mini Display port to DVI cable (that works with my iMac fine) and I get nothing. HOWEVER, if I run a TB cable from that same TB3 to TB2 adapter to my pegasus raid, and then plug that mini display port cable into the back of the pegasus raid and hook it up to the monitor, it works perfectly.
Still not sure why your HDMI adapter doesn’t work. I don’t have one of those and was thinking I’d be getting one for my other monitor.

December 21, 2016 at 1:31 pm in reply to: At least one NLE is making great use of the new Touch BarThe guy at the Apple demo in FCP.co demonstrates the touch bar and can be quoted as saying FCPX has DEEP touch bar integration. So it appears that Apoke thinks they have put quite a lot of time and effort into thinking about it. They just have a different vision possibly.
Also in the video I noted that they use events as I have used them. One event called media, one event called projects. But an additional event for selects which is interesting.

December 21, 2016 at 1:24 pm in reply to: At least one NLE is making great use of the new Touch BarI actually found the touch bar very useful in making our Xmas card photo in Afinnuty Photo. I was using the eraser tool. While using the eraser, without taking my bright hand off the track pad I was able to change the eraser softness, opacity, size etc. Even WHILE erasing.
THAT is the best example Ive found of its usefulness. As a simultaneous additional tool. Really great implementation.

December 20, 2016 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Anyone else miss the ability to collapse video clips? At the same time, they made the smallest clip size option TOO small. The one that doesn’t have thumbnails or audio waveforms. TOO tiny to do much with.
On the collapsing thing (wasn’t it called minimizing?) you’re talking about the setting in the index that by default had titles smaller in height. I never really used it because you couldn’t collapse/minimize anything that was in the primary or a secondary. Titles included. So it seemed kinda useless. Still, they took it away just like they did “expand all” and “collapse all” (that’s where “collapse” is used!) for audio video clips. Now it’s been replaced by lanes which isn’t needed until you’re ready to mix and output. Apple seems to think that lanes was the end all fix all and took away a few related features.

Draw Mask lets you draw a mask of any shape you like. Apply it to just one layer or apply it to a compound clip affecting a “group” as you mentioned earlier.

So where are the thunderbolt ports? I basically need usb and thunderbolt ports just like on my iMac. Usb isn’t an issue as you can basically put a $4 adapter on the end of your usb cable instead of a bulky dongle. But I need to hook up my TB raid and my TB AJA. So I guess I’d be plugging in two dongles into this thing. The HDMI is useful and the SD card is useful every 6 months or so.

[Oliver Peters] “In fact, your Events can actually be completely empty with all clips in the Library, yet you have to have at least 1 Event in the Library, even if it is empty.”
I’d like to know how you can do this. All media must exist in an event. Media can’t exist only in the library.

Except Events aren’t sub packaging. They’re the outermost packaging (except the library). It’s akin to having just the toolkit you describe and loading it in your car. Except you always have to put it in a big cardboard box first for no reason.

That’s how I’ve always worked. Actually I make an event for sequences so that all the compound clips that get created don’t show in my media event. I really have almost no need whatsoever for compounds to be shown in the event.
