How are you creating keywords? I’ve never seen that. I create keyword collections by right clicking on the event and choosing new keyword collection. I type a letter and it just sits and waits. Doesn’t create a keyword collection no matter how long I pause.

It’s also a major part of the decompression process making them better at playing back h264 sources without having to optimize.

I used to do what you’re trying to do with a 2006 Mac Pro with an updated gfx card that had an HDMI out. I hooked it up to a Flanders scientific DVI input via an HDMI cable and then a HDMI>DVI adapter on the back of the monitor. If that worked I can’t believe that your HDMI>DVI cable won’t. But perhaps you need the full cable. It’s probably missing pins right off the bat because it doesn’t need them so your MacBook might see it as a DVI connection.
That said, I can hook up my Dell monitor to my 2012 iMac via a miniDP (iMac end) to HDMI (Dell end) cable and FCPX sees that as a possible monitor source.

Selecting everything in the primary and pressing cmd opt up arrow will take it out of the primary. As well, selecting non primary clips and pressing cmd opt down arrow will place them in primary and bump out primary stuff where necessary.

I found one for $15 a few years ago for the same reason. But I used BMD Ultrastudio to capture. Why would you use Media100? You’ll still need a hardware capture device.

Unless you’re actually putting video files and projects on your internal (a scary proposition IMO) then 500gigs should be plenty of space. Ive had all the Adobe, BMD, and Apple programs I could want on the system and still it was around 200gigs. But if you’ve got your personal photos/videos on there (scary too) then maybe it would run low.
That said there’s not much you can easily do except upgrade the RAM to 32. But in reality FCPX performance is tied more to the GPU. So a better GPU would be next but I’m not sure that’s much of an option. Not an easy one at least. Your CPU is fine. CPUs in iMacs have only gotten marginally better since 2011. The compulsion to get a new iMac is more about retina screens, faster io, and GPUs.

Usually it’s the other way around. If you like and use the underdog, (Media100, Motion, AffinityPhoto), then it’s a good idea to learn other more standard tools like Avid, After Effects, and Photoshop either because the job market requires it or those type of files might end up on your desktop from a client or cohort. There’s not as much of a compelling argument to learn Media100 as another tool in your arsenal other than for the fun of it. I WISH I had that kind of time anymore.

I don’t have to read it. It’s a history in as much as the back/forward buttons are a history in a web browser or a finder window. Works exactly the same. If you go back to a previous sequence, then open another sequence, then that replaces the forward. I’m sorry it took you 5 1/2 years but I know others seem confused as well.
