    Check out https://motionvfx.com

Everything there is made with Motion. There are some very high end things that Motion doesn’t do yet. Planar tracking, puppet tool, and others. But for your high end motion graphics it’s every bit as capable.

Add in the rigging and publishing connection to FCP X and to me it’s an easy choice.

  • The question Apple likely asks themselves, is “How many additional MacBook Pros and Trashcans did we sell to support FCPX that we wouldn’t have otherwise?”

  • What a great presentation. I’m thoroughly convinced that the better tool for editing Hollywood films is a guy named Vashi and a particular Dell Tower.

Make sure you have clip skimming turned on and you’ll see the clip Tc when you scrub directly above the clip.

BTW FCPX only shows TC in the browser. It doesn’t have a “counter” function. But there is a possibility that it’s a format it can’t read.

  • Well, yes an event is a container within a library. A library generally being the main “container” for each job you do. So to say you’re putting your stock media in an event would mean you’re going to do every job in the same library.

I would recommend you create a library called “stock footage.” And within it you might want to create events/keyword collections/folders to organize the library of stock footage.

Then when you are working on a timeline in a library and you need some stock footage, you then open the stock footage library as well, grab what you need, and drag it into the project library you’re working in, and then close the stock footage library.

But if this stock footage library is so huge that it’s bringing down your system, then it’s existence is possibly a bad idea altogether. But I’m guessing there’s something corrupt. A weird old codec or file or something. Perhaps the library itself is just corrupt.

  • You mean you crated a “library” for stock footage, right?

[Neil Gregory] “4. I then use my old version of compressor from Final Cut Studio 3 to make a program stream mpeg 2, and make sure to switch the aspect ratio to 16×9”

Why are you doing this? When you did step 1, you either ended up with a center cut or a letterboxed 4:3 image, right? So why are you surprised that switching a 4:3 to 16:9 ends up with some sort of distortion?

Does SD Pal broadcast even accept 16:9 anamorphic? That’s DVD widescreen format. Seems like if you’re doing SD, you make it 4:3 SD. But if they do accept some sort of anamorphic widescreen, then you would need to start with an anamorphic timeline so that FCP X can apply the right distortion in step 1. But if they don’t accept anamorphic, it’s just going to end up stretched a different way.

Do you perchance have your timeline set to “better performance?” You keep talking about sharpness and that’s not an issue I’ve heard of anyone having.

I don’t have much need for that. Plus, you always end up missing some in the end anyway when you try to do that. And throw multiple people working on a project into the mix and it’s just not going to happen.

I use roles mostly to assist in the final audio mix and then to output discreet mix masters. It takes very little time to sort out in the timeline prior to that process.

It looks like they’re more transparent the farther away they are. Foreground ones look solid. Are they fading in as they come forward or is it a camera issue?
