You really don’t want to do a lot of detaching audio anyway as there is no way to know if you’ve knocked it out of sync like in legacy. If you don’t want audio, the proper (and quicker) way to do it is to simply turn off the audio in the inspector. You can do it for multiple clips at once. So just paste them, then turn off their audio.

Press delete. It’s just reversed because you’re in ripple mode as the norm.

Don’t you just hover to skim? No clicking. Skim back and press space bar. Just like a mouse.

  • I’ve built one recently if you’d like a copy to test for me.

Are you trying to click and drag to the timeline? The you get a range? That happens with a mouse too. If it’s not the active window then you really. Red to click to activate, then click to select.

Agreed. Luckily I started in numerous collaborative environments, and even early freelance years were still collaborative. Still get a taste here and there.

That completely describes everything I’ve learned in my life. And probably keeps me from taking my skills a notch higher. I’ll first try something, get a little gist, get stuck, then do a tutorial or take a lesson or advice, then learn the rest myself. My training from there on, whether it’s guitar, building a fence (last week), or video production tends to be limited to forums and YouTube. Even with a small tutorial from ripple or Denver riddle I tend to watch just enough to get the gist then I’m off playing with the controls or trying to figure it out for myself. If I don’t figure out things by doing, I just don’t retain the info.

To do what you really want requires a installer package. For commercial purposes you’d need a paid Apple Developer account with access to package maker and some training. Another option is the package installer creator included with the digital rebellion tool set which looks easy to use, but it’s not as slick looking and has digital rebellion labeling on the install window.

So the trick most are doing is the drag and drop installer. Basically create a dmg with an alias of the folder you want to install into (titles, effects, Generators) and the template folder. The user just has to drag the template folder to the alias. You can find YouTube tutorials on this method, but I suggest a little app called DMG Canvas.

While $500 is pretty cheap, your math is suspect. It’s only $400 ($397 actually).

  • I personally don’t know much about the Premiere titler but it seems pretty standard. Bevels glows gradients, etc all of which you can do (the trend has been toward flatter cleaner stuff for a while now) with the standard FCPX titler as well. Fills, alphas, mattes, all that. Text 101. Of course FCPX has the ability to do true 3D text complete with complex surfacing and even environment map lighting. Pretty slick stuff that outperforms a bevel any day. That said what I think is the true power of the X titling is the text sequencing and animation engine. You didn’t touch on that. But the ability to sequence characters, lines, words in very complex ways without having to resort to AE or Motion AND do it in 3D at the click of a button is pretty powerful IMHO. A lot of folks don’t realize that nearly the entire Motion text engine is right there in FCPX under that unassuming title labeled “custom.” Give it a whirl.

But in the end AE/Premiere or FCPX / Motion, they’re just tools. Both completely capable.
