Thanks for the feedback. Would this approach “draw it” per se? I need for the line to be drawn and not just have a blob move. I assume that’s what you’re thinking too. Would this approach work if the line was an arrow with a distinct shape at the head?

    Thanks

It’s a dektop, but my sata controller went bunk (it was affected by the Intel Sandy Bridge sata fiasco), so my internal slots that still work are full, and my esata drive stopped being accessible. I need it to be external in any case for changing worksites. Rather than get an sata/esata pci card I thought to be a bit more future-friendly (in terms of laptops and other devices) to go USB3, knowing it would be a bit of a hit in speed. I can see from initial tests it’s about 15-20% slower than my esata, but for Lightroom it has no discernible impact (I’m a photographer, video is a side thing). Not sure about Vegas though. I am using Vasst Gearshift proxies in Vegas, so I don’t think it’ll be an issue.
    Thanks

Hi John, I think what I’ll do in lieu of trying to get this info from Apple somehow is to post in the FCP forum. If you would be kind enough to suggest the missing details that I attempt to clarify that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Brett

I have this same hardware but with 16gb of ram, and although for me it runs 5d2 1080hd projects fine enough, it’s not quite real-time editing. I use the excellent GearShift plugin from VASST for proxies and everything is super fast. The difference is dramatic, and it will make your life much, much easier. This i7 2600 CPU really excels at rendering. Blazing fast.

Does Gearshift work with Vegas Pro 10? Yes

Can’t help with the stabilization question

I experimented quite a bit and was never able to get the same quality/file size relationship using Vegas as I was doing a secondary conversion with Movavi. I might have been able to eventually, but I already had all the proxies done and sitting there (I just hadn’t expected they would be as large as they were). The second conversion as it were was so easy (one-click and six hours for 2,500 files) and the file size reduction so valuable (95% reduction) that I just went with it. The generational loss is no big deal since they’re proxies, and the time and effort investment was negligible.
