Yes you can open it in the Studio Version with no issues.

When it comes to Closed Captioning you are pretty much stuck with one font and size.
There are specific guidelines that must be followed and adhered to.
Things like maximum characters per line, maximum lines per caption, positioning and how each caption is displayed are pretty much set in stone.

    Black Background with White Text.
26 characters per line with a max of 32.
Usually no more than 2 lines per caption. Three are allowed by some Broadcasters.
Positioned so that none of your text or keys are covered.
Displayed as Pop-On in most cases with Paint-On or Roll-Up not allowed by most Broadcasters.

MovieCaptioner is a low cost option that may work for you.
You will have to do a bit of reasearch and watch some CC from a broadcaster like PBS. That will give you a pretty good idea of what is expected. Don’t watch it on something like the internet or steaming services like Netflix as those are considered to be Subtitles and different rules apply to them.

  • No issues at all.
I even have a GTX-980Ti GPU and my Power Supply has never had an issue.

  • I always think that removing the side panel is a bad idea because you stop the designed front to back airflow in any system.
I could very well be wrong but that’s my opinion.

I’m one of those who upgraded to the Dual Hex 3.46ghz CPU’s and I just run MacsFanControl to deal with the extra heat.

Check your Mercury Playback Engine settings.
It should be set to CUDA for an NVIDIA GPU and OPENCL for an AMD GPU.
One of them may be set to Software Only.

What are you opening the file with.
Most players will not display Embedded Ancillary Closed Caption Data.

  • None of the A-Cam UHD that was scaled failed QC.
It’s the B-Cam HD that was scaled that failed the QC.
I warned them not to scale it to much but why listen to someone that does final mastering all the time.

I even put a custom Burn In just to the left of the Clip Name that said “4K” when Transcoding the Proxies out of Resolve. That way they had a handy visual aid on every clip and didn’t have to search through lists of paper to know which footage was 4K.

Likely the problem is that they are AVI Files.

AVI Files are terrible Files to work with and many of them just don’t play nice with anything. Try Transcoding them with Handbrake or Media Encoder before editing.

  • [Olivier Prudhomme] “How do I do that? The only Prores I see is 1920 by default.”

I tend to always use Resolve to Transcode footage because it allows me to embed the all important Tape/Reel Name into the Transcoded Footage. Just make sure you set the Video Levels to “Full” if you are going to Transcode to ProRes 4444 and set the Conform Options as per the attached screen shot.

  • These training videos are quite long and sometimes he dumbs things down a bit much but there’s a section in the first one that goes over using a Proxy Workflow. The Proxy Workflow is really very straight forward and easy to use when it’s done that way it’s explained in the first of his Videos.

Here’s the link to these YouTube Videos.
You will have to copy and paste this link, It doesn’t seem to be clickable for some odd reason.
