I use a profile by doug at vortex media in my EX-1. I don’t use profiles on my 5D MKII or 7D, since I just dial in my settings on site using white balance, ISO, F-Stop.
The DSLR’s tend to be warmer than my EX-1, so I may tweak my EX-1 to warm it up a bit in post. But, it isn’t a nightmare. I’ve been able to get a pretty good color match. Mostly from shooting experience in the field. I get close and then tweak in post. It’s always difficult when your run and gun like me.

One more thing. When things got slow in the other parts of my production business, my sport’s recruiting services picked up. It’s an easy sell. A little spent on me will give parents $25,000 – $100,000 in college scholarship money. You don’t find too many other parts of the event business that can produce those results.

Right on the money Aaron. You have to understand what coaches want. Since I’ve played at the college level….before recruiting videos…and I’ve coached, I understand what coaches are looking for.
Most parents don’t understand what they need to do to help their child get noticed and how get recruited. My job is not only to film the game so the coach can get a good look and evaluate a player, but to guide the family on what to do next once everything is done. I also market my site to the coaches so that they frequent my site to see what players are available. It makes it easy for everyone.
I’ve stopped recommending DVD’s of the highlight reel. There is a much better response to viewing the videos online.
I charge per game, for the highlight reel, webpage / player profile. If they are young, maybe their 2nd year of HS, then I charge again to do it all over the next year, giving them a free update on the website. Repeat business.

That’s true for a small screen when you can’t separate yourself too far from the background. But, when you have ideal space, I light the crap out of it.. I backlight my subject to give separation and it kills any green spill onto the subject.

I don’t do much chroma key, but I know most use after effects to pull the keys.

You don’t have to spend big bucks to upgrade. You can get a system for around $800 that will handle the video.
You can also go out and buy Adobe Premier Elements for around $70 and you’ll be good to go.

I haven’t changed my settings since setting up my log and transfer, so I was under the impression it did transcode the footage to proRes. Whatever it does, it works great and I don’t have any issues editing on my quad core, 4 year old machine.

I held off on the lens adapter. Once the 5D and 7D came out, I used that money toward these cameras. I didn’t like the bulkiness and additional issues working with lens adapters. (I’m a run and gun shooter)
Now that Panasonic has the AF-100, it gives you the best of what we were looking for. The ability to use the DSLR lenses with a film / video camera functions.
I’ve advised many companies on camera purchasing. I love helping people spend their money. I personally know videographers who have used these adaptors on the EX-1. They were great in their time, but when the 5D MK II came out, they all sold their adapters. I don’t know anyone who is buying adapters and would not advise you waste your money on one.
Take your cash and buy the AF-100. You won’t regret it.

EX 1 & EX 3 are basically the same camera internally. The eX-3 allows you to change lenses, synch multiple cameras.
Premiere CS5 will allow you to use your footage natively. Premiere probably is the best at working with multiple formats.
