As I am not a 3D modeler, can you explain the your statement “..we will auto-create materials for 3DS files (and a few other 3D file types), we don’t auto-create materials with textures applied” Does this mean if I tell them they have to create a 3DS file with “materials” – this could be a work around? I just don’t know what to tell them as they work within these 3D apps and I do not –
Bottom line – I just need a way of telling clients – Create your files like this……and export out like this….. and send me to incorporate within your animation project. Can this be done in a way that brings over all of their model information??
Thanks once again Matt.

So there is any way at all to import a file that has client’s finished surface? I have seen some .3ds files with finished surfaces that I can import – 3D Cafe freebies? I don’t mind telling someone the process as long as a process exits to do so…
Thanks again for the info, but is there any work around so that I am not trying to recreate a clients work. These are large product models for future production.

thanks, totally wasn’t thinking of LUX – I believe that will work for me.
thanks again,

oops! I think I meant to say parallel not perpendicular. I want the light source to travel across the screen, not out towards the viewer.
Sorry about that,

Thanks Jon –
I assumed as much – many years ago I started working with 3D Studio and have an old copy around here somewhere – I might try to mess around with that. Although, and I did look at the site mentioned above, thank you, is there other 3D sites around that may have animated elements for sale? I need a few things to add into a video project that I am working on.
Thanks again,

Well – it may not be that obvious – I am using the same encoder, both inside and outside of AE. It’s only when selecting the encoder as the “export” that I seen the problem. If, however, I use the same encode as a “stand alone” project – the files look great. So, the problem must (IMO) be when exporting out of AE and therefore I must be selecting or not selecting something within AE when I should…..
Thoughts?
Thank you again as even just speaking about this out loud to someone makes me think more of what to check.

Thanks for the reply Steve –
I am using the Heuris MPP2 that encodes HD transport stream. The funny thing is, and is why I asked the question here, is that if I encode directly using my encoder – the file looks great! It’s only when I encode out of AE the problem exists.
I have asked this same question to the group a few weeks back and I received the same response – none.
Thanks again, maybe I will try the DVD group, but you know they will say “try the AE group”.

Okay, so maybe there is another way that I am suppose to ask questions???? I can’t seem to get even one response – please let me know if I need to rephrase, edit, or ask. I am stuck trying to figure something out and I just need a little advice. I have seen a lot more – “read the manual” type questions posted that offered at least some advice…..
I just need help locating the issue of why I am seeing “mosquito noise” around areas of high detail after encoding an HD file from AE 6.5 to an MPEG2 transport stream.
thanks,
bS
