Just spit balling here, but maybe the extras dancing around him were told to slow their motions while Usher danced normally? Or, like you mentioned, they blended shots of a master, usher dancing through by himself, and one of extras dancing by themselves in one cohesive shot.

Thank you, Mr. Suszko and Mr. Tufekcioglu. I’ll look at ordering those books soon. The blog is pretty informative, thanks for naming that one.

I know we all have lives outside of work, and for you all to take time out of that is not lost on me; I’m very appreciative.. Thank you.

November 16, 2014 at 2:18 pm in reply to: New project, but slightly conflicted to accept.Mr. Baumchen-
The $15/hr was a quick example number that came to mind , but not far off from what i think to charge. This is because I’m a young filmmaker/videographer with minimal equipment (Nikon d7100, flimsy tripod, zoom h4n, and cutting video with Final Cut express 4 on an ’08 MacBook). I don’t want to overcharge, or put up a price that scares this church client away. I don’t currently claim myself to be on the experienced, “professional” level of you guys. While I do my best to present myself and act in a professional manner, I don’t feel my work is at a level to justify that rate you mentioned of $100+ per hour.

I’m chalking this gig up under your “shut up and finish it” experience. I’m looking to use this experience to better myself creatively, and develop my skills with the camera.
While I would love to be a part of a wildlife documentary (I like nature, and docs in general) or working a feature film, I have to take what’s available. This is currently what I have. I’m willing to put my best into it, regardless of the content/theme of pro-life, so I can simply get experience. When the time comes I’m able to get a spot on a big job, I’ll have had this much more practice as a filmmaker, story teller.
I’ll probably end up making myself unavailable for gigs such as these in the future, but I’ll dip my toes in the water for the first time and see what becomes of it.

November 16, 2014 at 1:54 pm in reply to: New project, but slightly conflicted to accept.Mr. Rendell- You bring up some great points as to how the video could be developed. While I’m not afraid to work to meet those, I don’t want to create a video that negatively defines my future demo reel/resume.
I know that politics and money are sensitive spots for many people. I don’t want someone to see this would-be video and write me off under a definition that may not be warranted simply because I created a certain video. I want to be seen in how I created, and not always what was created( I hope that’s articulated properly). . I’m a beginner, soon to graduate college, so at this time in my life I need all the practice and experience while I can. I’m not getting any younger. My objective is to be a mercenary, so to speak, for this project. Doing the necessary film techniques to produce a quality product that meets, and hopefully exceeds, the customer’s expectations, while honing/expanding my abilities is my end goal. -

November 5, 2014 at 11:06 pm in reply to: Business card, LLC or Just a business card?First off, I love the “American Psycho” reference, it caught me off guard until I re-read the name.
Second, would something with only my name, email, descriptor (ie videographer, editor) and phone number be too simple? I don’t have anything fancy like a website, and my youtube channel is basic.
I don’t think you should have said to write up every worrisome detail into a contract. As a cynic and pessimist, I’ll need a 90 page contract if that’s the case. Haha
On a more serious note, I be sure to keep those memo details in mind when I go to scribe a contract for my works.
And, thank you for taking the time to help my novice self out!
Sincerely,
Brandon Eastman

November 5, 2014 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Business card, LLC or Just a business card?Thank you for the pointers, Mr. Suszko and Mr. Herd.
I think I’ll stick to business cards for the time being. I think jumping to an LLC was bad thinking on my part. I do the occasional videography/photography gig on the side, so an LLC seems overkill.
Any recommended business card sites worth investigating? I’ll probably only want 100 cards, for starters, because I don’t have the funds to drop on a plethora of cards.
Also, when making arrangements for videography or photography gigs, I’ve only had, up to now, verbal agreements with the friends or family I shoot projects for. What is the best way to go about forming a general contract for others to sign? Do I need an attorney to script a contract? The contract should cover fees, and rights to the media after completion. Is this something I can legally write or does someone “official” need to make said contracts?

November 2, 2014 at 2:12 pm in reply to: Trouble reconnecting media in Final Cut Express 4***RESOLVED***
I repeated the “reconnect media” procedure a few more times. Don’t know what changed when reading the files, but all my video and audio clips reconnected.
If someone could delete this thread, that would be wonderful. Don’t want unnecessary waste of forum space.
Thank you,
B Eastman

Unfortunately, mpeg2 is not an option to select straight from Final Cut Express…
Thanks again for the help, Everyone.
