Thanks for the help. The one other question i have is regarding the plug in to use. I found a few Nattress filters on my FCP. There are the following to use (under a subfolder called Nattress Film Effects – Deinterlace):

-G Fast Deinterlace
-G Fast Deinterlace Blend
-G Fast Deinterlace Smart
-G Fast Deinterlace Smatt Blend
-G Smart De-interlace V2.5.1.

Which one should I use or is there a different one you use normally. I tried a test with the G Fast Deinterlace and did a split screen with the Deinterlaced and the original and I couldn’t notice it, is that normal considering im working off of a monitor in FCP to not notice it???? Also do i select the option to pick the upper field in the order and do I select the first field in the Natress filter?

But there has to be some way to set up the DVD so if you press menu once the dvd is playing and you go into the main menu for the language features, to turn on subtitles of a specific language, then you can click resume to take off where you left off vs. restarting the movie from scratch. This can’t be just the DVD player, there has to be some way to have it take off where you left off because i think people would go crazy if it always restarted (ive used many different dvd players and the dvds always take off where they left off when menu was selected). I know you can change sub title streams with a subtitle button on a dvd remote but for some reason people dont realize this and want to turn subs on in the menu and continue from where they left off (we’ve received complaints from people on this, so im trying to make it super easy)….

This is the main issue i posted for. I thought just learning a resume function would solve this, but im guessing i didnt explain myself properly.

Yiu can’t rip off a dvd and put it right into FCP, its not possible and if it is i wouldnt recommend that way as a ripping software wouldnt mean they know how to convert.

A DVD must be ripped and will always give you a VIdeo TS folder which cannot be opened in FCP or premiere. You need to rip the dvd then convert all files in MPEG Streamclip to QT files (i do it this way)…..

I use mac the ripper on mac then throw it into Streamclip then im ready to edit at a great quality level

I keep hearing subrip is good, but i am on a MAC and it does not work for MAC’s. If anyone knows of a program for the subtitle extraction that i explained in my last post on this thread can you give me a pointer. Remember it must be a MAC application

You say you found a workaround other then the other guys post, can you specify what the woraround is because i am having the same issue as you doing a similar job and most importantly i ned to have the subtitles extracted so when i reauthor the dvd’s i can make the different subtitles optional and i have no idea how to get them out of the VOB files or ifo’s of a DVD, I am a bit lost as how to get the subs usable for DVD studio pro. Your help would be extremely appreciated

I’m sorry i can’t be of more help, but yes that is definitely in the scripting and it can be done, if i knew how to do it I would help you out but that is a more pro level question that i would also like to know

I would reccomend just using MPEG streamclip to convert Pal footage to NTSC then do your burning. MPEg streamclip is an easy and fast program to use and it is free
