I was really hoping ver. 5 would have fixed this GLARING problem. Does anyone know if Apple is even working on this? Is there still a list of priorities for fixes and features that Apple maintains or refers to?
I find that not only the movement is hard (or impossible) to get smooth at times, but the quality of the image is horrible as well especially with a little z rotation. It’s like subpixel processing is disabled or something. Jaggies everywhere (we use 4:2:2 uncompressed 10-bit exclusively). What is up with that. Same setup in AE, video quality is silky smooth, not to mention so are the moves. Apple, please fix this!!!!!

December 16, 2005 at 10:00 pm in reply to: After Rendering All, Print to Video renders again taking the same amount of timeBy checking everything in render all (which we do ALL the time) you would still need to render the timeline BEFORE you Edit to Tape (ETT) otherwise ETT will render again and it is a virtual render that is lost as soon as the tape layoff ends, meaning you would have to wait for the virtual render everytime you layoff.
About the render during ETT even when everything is fully rendered problem you originally posted, I have that occasionally as well and I too found that it was disabled clips that were the culprit. In other words a full rendered Timeline that you are ready to Edit to Tape, it will often stop and render a completely useless renders of an invisible clips. I call that a BUG.

Thanks for the confirmation. Sounds like a bug lurking in there somewhere. Is there an offical bug report list somewhere?

Good suggestion John, but Brian could take it even one step further since he is using a still. Add the shadow to the still in PS and no rendering! You could even do this right on the timeline. Setup up the shadow (or matte) and border the way you want, hit Shift-N and create a Freeze. Now drop that down as your background and put the squeezed DV footage over that without a shadow or border.

dzul, man that is too cool. where did you find out how to do this, i.e. is it well known feature or just a fluke? either way it sure enough works!

Sweet. Thanks Nick. I had been there before but had forgot all about it.
There are more than a dozen that conflict. They should make an option within Final Cut Pro to give priority to application shortcuts so you don’t have to disable so many OS ones universally.

Is your sequence set to DV? I just loaded up a similar timeline and it was real time (no rendering needed) until I added the border and shadow. It was a short clip but it rendered in close to real time, i.e. 30 sec. sequence took ~30 seconds. Your 30 minutes on my system would take about 30 minutes. We do have X-Serve RAIDS here though. If your background clip (maybe a Jumpback) is not native DV, it will take longer too.

We have identical setup as you. We are getting similar lock-ups or crashes. Beach balls, and never recovers. Same behavior on three identical systems. Force quit is our only option and of course you lose all your work. PITA.
Searched for solutions, so far I have found nothing. Trashing the Motion PLIST seemed to have help one artist but I did not have same success. Maybe Kona2 related? We had similar lockups in FCP till new Kona drivers helped that out. Checked logs, but oddly, no entries I could find as it really never crashes flat out, but hangs till I force quit.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks,
Brad

I tried to email Dean, but it bounced for some reason…
