Did you try resetting your preferences? You can do it automatically with FCP Rescue 6, freeware.

Oh right, I completely forgot; I guess because the component inputs on the Dell 2405 are completely awful, hence the HD-Link that I’m running in between. Does anyone know if the component inputs on the DreamColor are quality? I still wish the monitor included HD-SDI for pixel-per-pixel digital viewing, given that it’s an LCD monitor which isn’t dynamic in its resolution like a CRT.

OUCH! Yeah, I’m all out of ideas. Well, best of luck!

I’d recommend getting a copy of Disk Warrior, I think it’s pretty cheap. It’s regarded as the only solid tool for recovering problematic disks in OS X when Disk Utility fails to help. Whatever you do, don’t use another 3rd party app like Norton Disk Utility – that will defrag your disk in a way that totally screws up the built in defragging and indexing that is done within OS X behind the scenes.
You might also consider enabling journaling, but I don’t know if you can turn off journaling once it’s on w/o reformatting. Journaling in Apple’s older manuals say should be off for media drives for higher access rates, but I think there’s newer thought that it should always be turned on, can’t really remember the final verdict. There’s a long thread about it in this forum.

Sorry, it’s actually “ignore ownership on this volume”, located at the very bottom when you do a get info on the drive.

Have you tried checking the “disable permissions for this volume” box? That’s what I did for my XRAID when I first started getting permissions errors since I didn’t want to constantly waste my time fixing permissions.

Oh right, I was thinking of Final Cut’s Export using Compressor.

I blame youtube….
Thanks for all of the input everyone. One more question; is there a way to sync playback of Quicktime files between 2 remote computers? I’m thinking if I use an external drive and work on the MacBook Pro, I’d still need a way to preview Quicktime renders with a client via phone with both parties able to view the same movie at the same time in sync.

I have a MacBook Pro, but it doesn’t have A/V drives. So if I’m mainly working with HD ProRes in FCS, Shake, and AE, would I be able to be productive working from the MBP using a FW800 mini RAID from Medea or LaCie, or would I more likely need eSATA? And is there a card for the MacBook Pro (core2 duo) that has eSATA ports? Thanks.

Damn. Thanks for the input.
I’ve been hearing about fiber optic connections to the net that are now available to consumers, does anyone have this or know what the monthly cost is? I wonder if I had fiber optics if the bandwidth would be preserved from home to work. If so, then I could have my IT crew possibly dedicate my connection directly to my Mac via fiber optics -> fibre channel. Any thoughts as to the viability of this?
