I’ll second the MacGurus “roll your own” recommendation. I just built two 1TB SATA arrays (4x250GB) for less than $900 each. They were easy to put together (MacGurus has great online instructions.) and they work great.

Are you using the S5s or the S8s? I just ordered three pairs of the S8s for our FCP suites. The specs and reviews are good and the price is right. I suspect they’ll work well. Two of the suites are new and in one suite they’ll replace a pair of those old white Rolands that came with Avid and Media 100 systems about twelve years ago. I imagine there’ll be a noticable improvement.

That sucks. I just ordered two of them. I suppose I should have read the specs more carefully but when I see “black burst generator” I have a certain expectation. My bad, I guess.

Oops. That would be a dual 250 (2.4Ghz) setup. Quad 875s would be nice but I doubt I can spend that kind of money. Even so, I expect we’ll be seeing a significant improvement over the single 2.4Ghz P4 box that we’re currently running.

Thanks! I think we’ll probably be looking at a dual 875 setup, although those Tyan quad motherboards are pretty tempting. I’ll have to look around for some AMD hardware discussion boards to see if I can get any ideas. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the AMD COW has been visited in months.

I’m kind of curious about that, myself. I’m setting up two new FCP suites and I’m looking at jog/shuttle controllers. I’ve got an old (silver)Contour Shuttle Pro on our existing suite and it’s okay. Does anyone know if the new (black) ones are better? Also, does anyone have any experience with JL Cooper controllers? Any others?
