“Log Out” on the Mac (leave the CD in the tray) then “Log In” as the same user.

Clean up the worst ones MANUALLY (takes a lot of time).

Then you might try Bias SoundSoap 2. ($80-$100)

You sample the noise “in the clear” and the software “removes” it throughout the rest of the clip(s).

The problem with INTERMITTENT (non-continuous) noise, is the software has a much lower ability to distinguish the noise from the wanted program material.

And we mean a LOT of distance.

Unless your’re shooting in a GYM or huge hotel ballroom or the like, you’ll probably NOT be able to get enough distance between the cam and the talent… and the talent and the background for the bkg. to go “soft” enough to actually make a difference.

That’s simply not true.

I’m not saying it WILL solve YOUR problem NOW… but Mixdown CAN help “fix” export problems.

What Hard Drives?

Did you capture to a drive(s) other than the one with your OS and FCP?

How full are the drives?

Did you perform an Audio “Mixdown for Playback”?

We can’t give you serious help without complete details.

There is a huge difference between getting a signal IN FROM a VHS deck and getting a signal OUT TO a VHS deck.

You must have all the cables going from the card’s OUT connected to the VHS decks INPUTS.

The VHS deck must be switched to record the A/V inputs (not the TV channels).

You must be able to see FCP’s output on the VHS deck’s monitor.

After that all checks out…

Don’t bother to use “Print to Video”.

Just start recording on the VHS deck, and PLAY the FCP timeline.

A pad (or “attenuator”) is a device (or a built-in circuit in your camcorder) that reduces the level of a signal.

A pad with a selectable attenuation is like this one:

These pads fit between the output of a mic, audio player, or mixer and the input of a camcorder.

On camcorders, if (IF) they allow analog input, they use the OUTPUTS as the inputs for the purpose.
When switched to VCR (playback) mode, if you send an analog audio and/or video input back into the camcorder’s A/V output (Composite or S-Video), the video signal will appear on the cameras LCD screen (or viewfinder).

Just load a DV tape, hit record, and play the analog source.
(For A-to-D transcoding with these models, the FW will be sending the external source down the FW to the Mac even with no tape in the machine.)

There are many camcorders that have these features.
But many times you won’t know IF they DO unless you scour the operation manual (or just hook it up and TRY it).
So your camcorder(s) MIGHT have this feature… you just won’t find a dedicated “video input” on them.

What surprised me about your answer, Walter, is that these features have been discussed dozens of times here on the FCP COW.
But if you’ve never had a NEED to use a camcorder as an analog-input deck, you may not have paid any attention to them.

So no biggie… just a surprise.

You can certainly try to “daisy-chain” the camera via the external drive (no HUB needed).
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of laptop Macs with FCP hooked up this way.
